Respect the deceased!!
« on: October 09, 2010, 09:46:14 am »

Their information should be read as "was" instead of "is." In example, "Urist McBridgeLowerer was unfathomably weak, abysmally clumsy, shockingly fragile, truly quick to tire, stunningly susceptible to disease and shockingly slow to heal". The game for now display it as "Urist McBridgeLowerer is unfathomably weak, abysmally clumsy, shockingly fragile, truly quick to tire, stunningly susceptible to disease and shockingly slow to heal." Even after some bridge related tragedy he got involved in.

EDIT: Clarification.

Well actually, in the specific example you gave, I think that all sounds accurate  ;D

His point is that a dead dwarf is all of those things. Dead dwarfs don't heal, after all.

All of them imply disbelief though.  It seems to me that it is pretty normal that all of those things would be expected of a dead guy.

But I agree, that makes sense as a change.  I'd also say that it shouldn't say that his holdings are a grave, maybe it should say that their spouse or next of kin has their grave as a holding.

True. Now I'm imagining a bookkeeper coming along, "That dwarf is so slow, he hasn't moved from that spot! It's truly abysmal!"

All of these make sense. I'm also thinking that the procedurally generated dialogue is pretty hard to make work, like how pronouns are almost never used, it just says the creature/object's name over and over. This would likely be a relatively easy fix, though.

I would like for the insane ghosts of the dead to possess the corpses of random animals and other corpses in the butcher shop and wreak havok on the living.  Then I would like to make a trap that drops invaders into my pit full of corpses so that I have a reason to laugh like a maniac when the fall only breaks legs.
