horse+donkey=mule?
« on: October 08, 2010, 09:45:25 pm »

I happen to have a male horse and a female donkey, but not the opposite genders of either. Will they, like in real life, create mules? Or should I pony up and buy a horse and donkey from the next caravan?

No.  In Dwarf Fortress, mules are not the offspring of donkeys and horses.  Mules are single-gender creatures, with no parents, magically spawned out of nothing offscreen.  You cannot create them in your fortress.

Yeah, yeah, but there's no hinnies in-game  :P.

It would be cool though, because by the same principle you could make Ligers!

Or breed half-elves, and trade them in cages to the elves.

Elves do it in trees. Humans do it in wooden structures. Dwarves? Dwarves do it underground. With magma.

That's what cages and minecart shotguns are for!  We don't need to control them.  We just need to aim them.

You can. Try and see.
It was only impossible back in 40d days.

It's not an embark so much as seven dwarves having a simultaneous strange mood and going off to build an artifact fortress that menaces with spikes of awesome and hanging rings of death.

I tried. Nothing happened, except that the donkey mare got impregnated by the donkeys of the human caravan.
