Oh god, lashes are death machines.
« on: October 08, 2010, 06:40:49 pm »

Is this one of those bugs like carp or are they really meant to be so insane and how do I get some to train my own dwarves with them?

They are... not modeled well. It's not a bug per se, it's just that the game assumes weapons to be rigid. To get some, kill lashers. Alternatively, buy them from the humans.

They're basically lightsabers at this point, i.e. bugged. I think it's because they're not counted as being flexible by how the game works.

Whips are laser pistols (and can be purchased from the humans), scourges are lightsabres (and can only be looted from goblins).

P.S. If you don't get this note, let me know and I'll write you another.
It's amazing how dwarves can make a stack of bones completely waterproof and magmaproof.
It's amazing how they can make an entire floodgate out of the bones of 2 cats.

I see.

Thanks.  This adds a new step to my military practice.  I'll have to learn how to properly deploy marksdwarves alongside melee-ers.

Speaking of military training, I can't seem to get my repeater to work.  Any creature I use just rushes up into one spot on the door/wall and hangs out there forever instead of wandering.

I keep them in seperate squads, and just, quite simply, deploy the marksdwarves behind the melee dwarves.  And then go through hell keeping the marksdwarves from running up and meleeing them like morons.

Two doors, each with a pressure plate. They will stand still if there is nowhere to go.

Actually, whips are blunt. Thus, tiny hypersonic hammers.

Aye, whips are tiny, supersonic hammers, scourges are lightsabers, and flails are just weakened whips.

You could just tweak the raws a little to balance them.  Increasing the contact area x10 works pretty well, IIRC.

What about moods?  I thought dwarves still always chose to make a liked object if it was compatible with their mooded skill...

I was all ready to ask what metal I should lock my scourge-loving metalsmith in with if she went fey.  :[

They can make scourges if they get a mood...and you would want to lock her in with platinum or silver i believe...(unless scourges benefit from a sharp edge of steel/bronze more than density.)

So, bronze/steel/silver/platinum are all good choices for scourges

That's what cages and minecart shotguns are for!  We don't need to control them.  We just need to aim them.

Hmm...  the wiki says "edge" attack type, so I'd guess steel?

But even with that edge attack type, weight plays into the benefit...basically, you want a metal that is both sharp and dense.  Steel or bronze would work well.  (maybe use cotton candy?)
