Has toady forgotten to clear out cache memmory before he uses it? That dosn't sound like him! Must be the computer... Guess I won't be getting cyan spires any time soon.

Anyway, if it crashes the game, its a glitch, anything else is a feature, or atleast a !!FEATURE!!, both are a lot of fun.

This is the third incidence of adamantine spires. The second is the "magma mountains" save that is also unplayable (at least for me) at FPS 0.
First incidence is playable once the pop. gets above 20 so they can dig.

I wish I got my own spire somehow....

Engraved on the monitor is an exceptionally designed image of FPS in Dwarf Fortress and it's multicore support by Toady. Toady is raising the multicore. The artwork relates to the masterful multicore support by Toady for the Dwarf Fortress in midwinter of 2010. Toady is surrounded by dwarves. The dwarves are rejoicing.

Okay, here's the world gen info:..

Bet you it can't be reproduced by regenning.

Some kinda unclean memory problem perhaps? Did you gen several worlds or try to do it several times perhaps?
Maybe some parts of elevation changed in between them, and so did the height of the adamantine spire in the last one.

Just a theory... going to test it though...

So what were the other two? How playable were they?

One was in the middle of a really tall mountain, only slightly sticking out(I think) and the other was just a plain adamantine spire like this one and the original one.

This DOES seem to be playable: I can cut wood and dig holes, it's just glacially slow on my laptop. \\

With the fact that these things can't be regenned, it's pretty much a guarantee that these are some kind of leftover memory bug. It's definitely one of the most AWESOME memory bugs though.

Well, since you're one of the lucky winners, you're just gonna have to colonize it! Build a massive above-ground tower, with the spire as the support. Build around, in, and off of the spire. The spire is your GOD and you must worship it!

...Or you could cave-in the entire thing on top of your fortress, like the ultimate Lance of Longinus, in case things get shitty.

Lucky you, I've so far only found a site with no adamantine at all.

Were you playing a NanoFortress? Otherwise that shouldn't be possible.

I was playing this one: http://dffd.wimbli.com/file.php?id=3188

Magma was pouring into hell apparently since the get go.

Reminded me of the Magma Mountain bug, only with somewhat reverse effect. Might be interesting to check out other sites in that world, if there might be adamantine spires too..
