When it comes to questions about morals and people, I've come to the conclusion that there is only one effective angle of attack. To quote breadbocks:

On the issue of devouring sentients:

The problem arises not due to biology, although that too may play a part, the problem arises from the fact that we are averted not to eating humans, but eating things that think as we do. That's how biology pulled the switch (wut), and so we'd have the same issue there as with cannabalism. It's hard to pull off somethings shirt and say "This looks delicious! OM NOM NOM".

Innuendo not intended.

How do you know? As far as things on earth they are one and the same.

Because alot of people I know don't eat monkeys or dogs. I realize there are people who eat such things elsewhere, but then there are cannibals as well.

Cannibalism being a no-no is probably a byproduct of biological influence. When you eat something the same species as you, you are so so so much more likely to pick up any diseases inside of your meal. Cannibalism is a very risky practice, which probably lead to it being discouraged long long ago in human history.

That's why we eat other animals, because they are different enough that we are far less likely to pick up any diseases they may be carrying upon consumption.

Case in point:  The Fore tribe of New Guinea and Kuru.
