I find personal text helps a lot. I usually get momentarily confused when someone changes both their text and their avatar at the same time; so long as one stays constant, I tend to catch on immediately. I don't find it difficult remembering names or writing styles, either.

Anyways, I tend to see everyone without Avatars as a kind of massive, split personality hive mind when they post. avatars just make people more recognizable.

That's actually a hair ribbon. She's a hell raven. With nuclear power. Slightly creepier than normal in that picture.

As for avatars, I identify people by them primarily, though I do check names every so often. Writing style probably helps a bit too.
