I'm glad I did decide to go with Max. You get much more recognizable with an avatar and my ego's grown so large I need to feed it attention by the truckload.

Also, less people, and a broader range of things to share opinions about, which means people have more of a chance to be individual, a part of which involves avatars (not that it has to). Just to shovel some more o' that attention into the furnace, how many of you know me? If you mostly confine yourself to the Finally section or are even just a regular visitor who also posts in the Upper Forums all the times, I would assume that you do, not because I'm particularly funny or clever but because I'm loud and I have a big avatar. Whereas the Upper Forums are based around DF and everyone knows what each other is talking about or can gauge their opinions with relative ease, down here every thread involves unique viewpoints and opinions about, well, it could be anything.

Honestly, I just realized that bar a need to differentiate, I consider everyone without an avatar the same person, so this thread title really confused me. I saw it and was like "Nah, that can't be true, surely there's only like one, maybe two people I ever see without an avatar".

I COULD NOT LIVE WITHOUT MY ADORABLE, POST-SIDE COMPANION.

That is all.

I'd have one, but far too lazy to cut it down to size.

An avatar does wonders for establishing a forum "persona", so to speak. People with memetic avatars such as Aqizzar and ToonyMan are much more recognizable than people without them, such as RAM.

(No offense meant towards RAM.)

Edit: I'm actually thinking of switching back to the earlier "Annoyed Pitch Black Globe with Glowing Eyes", since it's a bit more recognizable than my current Garland avatar.

Mine is somewhat recognizable, I don't think anyone else here has a skeleton ripping off it's own flesh anyway. Would have prefered one of Maikos but I couldn't get the pic I have to work, and the other two I would like would make people assume I'm a chick >.>.

I recognise yours immediately since the colour is different to anyone elses.

ToonyMan's changes ridiculously often, but seeing the avatar I usually think "That can't be anyone but him".

I don't often change my avatar. Probably the only times I would change mine would be if I get bored of it. As for personality, my avatars could reflect my general mood as well.

I didn't realize how many people didn't have an avatar. Well i guess even as it is, it's just a small handful.

Personally I think they're indispensable. It's easier the recognize people by their "face".

I'm sure the occasional guy on dial-up appreciates the 1.15-meg avatar, for that matter. :P

I like avatars. I occasionally switch, but one thing is common about them.

I just never know what to have for an avatar, which means I'm avatarless on most forums I'm a member of.

Seriously, how can I be Captain Hat, if I don't have a creepy picture of a guy in a military style hat?
