Was watching this, and it gave me an idea:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ww3GTNv9hHk

We need dwarf jobs that generate no items or no wealth, but will make other dwarfs happy. A couple ideas that I had...

1. Massage room/chair. The dwarf in charge of this would just hang out in this room all day until approached by a dwarf who is on break. This dwarf will get a massage and get a boost to happiness.

2. Singers. This dwarf will wonder your fortress singing. Probably have him patrolling around workshops and meeting areas and avoiding bedrooms. Dwarfs that particularly enjoy music may even make requests resulting in the singer staying near this dwarf for some time.

3. Dancer. This dwarf will typically hang out in a meeting area and offer to dance with any dwarf that is there for social time (not eating/drinking).

4. Therapist. This dwarf will require an office with at least 2 chairs (probably defined by the chair, or a new item... 'Therapist chair'). Will talk out problems with unhappy dwarfs who come to visit. Typically only visited by unhappy dwarfs and sometimes a visit will be a required part of a punishment (for example, violent crimes).

5. Food/drink service. This dwarf will bring food and drink to the table for the hungry and tired. Drink will require a mug. Possibly preempting the arrival of the hungry one if the food/drink service staff are close to the stockpile and are not busy.
-also the possibility of having drink runners. No reason that my miner needs to come allllll the way back to the 2nd level to drink when I could send a non-skilled dwarf to bring the drink to him!

6. [your idea here] need more interesting jobs!

Well, it's a feature I would vote for.
But as dwarves have each their own personality,
they could dislike some types such as singers with little to no experience in singing.  :P
And some might prefer massages over dancing and such.

I'm not sure professional masseuses really fit the time period, though you could sell me on something akin to Turkish baths, but I definitely like the idea of bards or strolling players.

Never used Dwarf Therapist, mods or tilesets in all the years I've been playing.
I think Toady's confusing interface better simulates the experience of a bunch of disorganised drunken dwarves running a fort.

Wandering bards who follow merchants and entertains your dwarves while theyre there.
So an elven caravan would bring elven bards, which might give a plesant thought of 'Have listened to foreign music lately'.
And with dwarven merchants 'Have listened to nostalgic music lately'.

And in some cases they might not like that type of songs.

Priests should be nobles, or something like that.

Bards, actors and performers in general are good ideas and fit well into the setting, maybe with a new dedicated room/area.

I'd like to have some servants/waiter/house(fort?)maid. Those may also be required by high level nobles.

We need a new ethic tag to determine on a cullture by culture basis whether massages are expected to have "Happy Endings"

LOL! I was going to say Dwarven Prostitutes would almost be a must given all the hard work that goes on in the fortress. I guess the pretense of a "massage" works, though  ;)

"This song is an image of circles."

Or something like that, but yes, songs of epic battles of Bronze collosi crushing dwarves.

They wouldn't have been able to sing anything for all the blood.
