Air Fishing

I just discovered one of my dwarfs fishing in mid-air. He's perched on my in-construction mega-duct fishing 4 z-levels above ground, and like 30-squares from water when he's actually on the ground... and by the looks of things he caught a fish or something (he got to the food pile before I caught him).

Has anyone seen this before, because I'm guessing air-fishing is a bug. I mean I know the seagulls off my balcony IRL manage to catch hotdog before it hits the ground, but I never thought of putting fishing line on it until I ran into this with DF... this game really rots the brain.

gentlemen i think we have found a new sport: seagull air fishing one hot-dog some hooks and some high strength mono filament. Tie line to something strong, throw it out your window and watch the fun

I once heard empty space has no effect on fishing.  Someone designed a fishing hole high above the water to keep their fisherers safe, but then a flying forgotten beast got in anyway.

OP said nearest water was 30 tiles away when on the ground. But that is good to know.

Off topic, but I've done duck fishing before. Run line through heavy metal pipe, have a float and yummy duck type bait, then try and down the suckers.

Great in theory and quite hilarious, but didn't work at all in practice!

We all know that dwarves fish with their beards. Either this one has a ¤Dwarven Beard [34]¤, or you can find it lying next to your fishing pond, carved off by a freak Goblin Hairdresser.
