elephants...
« on: October 07, 2010, 01:12:02 pm »

So an elven caravan rolls into my humble abode of simmering magma and half built pumps stacks... with two caged elephants, So I purchased one of these large semi-gentle animals in a cage, I was wondering how I go about removing them from the cage and putting them to use... for farming and... Clown smashing.

Farming with elephants?  :o

build the cage with the elephant somewhere, q over the cage and un-assign the elephant to set him free.

Alternatively, you can just channel a square of useless land (maybe on the surface) and mark it as a pit, then select the animal that is caged and put him in.  It won't work for animals you have a lot of, but if you only have 2 caged elephants I find it easier than having to build, uncage, and then destroy.  Plus, you can do it all in one shot and it is reusable.

Did you just say TWO elephants?
Is one of them dead with a few elves stuck on its tusks?

If elves offer you two elephants, you should buy one from them, turn it into a war elephant and then use it to kill the elves and claim the other one.

unfortunately no, but there are some ashes at the bottom of my moat that should be lable'ed "Elf diplomat"

and I dont think I can train war animals, because I do not have a Dungeon master.

and in response to the pit idea, I had trouble using pits before, was telling me that the space was two small, dug out a 3x3 with up ramps above and channeled it to open space so it was a legitimate pit in the ground designated, and all my animals were too big for the pit... even kittens, (finding them useless... well my expidition leader got a happy thought from that meal) :D

Elephants can be trained to be war elephants by a simple animal trainer at a kennel, no DM needed.

When I purchase animals, I generally just use a cage I already have built, assign all caged animals to that cage, and then let them go.

Elves bring two elephants

You only buy one.

Err...you bought two elephants, right?

Why in the world would you only buy a single elephant?  :o

Why would you BUY them?  The preferred method of obtaining items from elves is to fill the depot with water and drain it off after the elves are dead and claim the spoils.

Too much hauling. I don't even like killing elves due to the sheer quantity of garbage they bring. Its best if they leave alive so they can haul all of that garbage with them.
