As could I, I like sci-fi as much as I love fantasy. Oh and about the whole 'stock' sci-fi races, you ever notice the bug people are almost always evil?

Card's (bigot) ant-people are the only examples I'm aware of that aren't.

Well the Rachni from ME aren't evil either, they where manipulated into acting evil. But still, I would like to see more diversity in sci-fi, and fantasy too, as well as people remembering space ships can move in any direction and the chance of two crossing paths and their 'bridge' being in the same basic direction is near inpossible. But I still like this, it's not often you see sci-fi that points out humans have made everything we have off of war with each other, and we glorify violance by buying movies that show horrific violance as a reward for children. You have to admit that would sound fucked up and maybe even frightening to someone from a completely different society.

Cause some of those more docile aliens may be very useful as a slave caste.

Humans commit genocide for reasons like 'your skin color is darker than mine' 'you don't beleive in my god!' 'your not blond haired and blue eyed!' If we do that why wouldn't we do the same to them? Humans have been doing this since the dawn of out race, why would be change just becouse we can reach other sentiant species?

Well of course we'll perpetrate genocide.  That goes without saying.  But extermination?  I say 50/50, depending on how disgusting they are to us.

I didn't say it wasn't an unrealistically idealistic idea.  I just said it was an idea.

In my thinking, if we ever do manage to make interstellar travel feasible it'll probably be because we made it simple enough for stupid people to handle.

No offence, and I truely mean that, but I'm sure people said that about when we could 'touch the sky', which stupid people can do now. And before than when stupid people could 'brave the sea and reach lands unknown' Which stupid people could do by the time touching the sky became more popular.
