.16: No sieges, no ambushes, no fun stuff

So I started a game in .14 or .15 (don't know excatcly) with a 2x2 embark (slow PC). In the meantime I updated to .16 but I still don't have seen any goblins. I had some titans and some FBs but that is all. I even dug down to the semi-molten-rock and that is it. No fun stuff. Not even the good/evil material. Nothing. Tried to cave-in my way through the SMR but no success. All caverns are explored. Every fighter (over 20) clad in steel and at least Legendary in three combat skills (Weapon, Armor, Dodger) and they kill everything that walks into the cavers without any problems. *yawn* What now?

And why do monsters in caves appear in waves? Meaning that the next wave only appears if the first has been completely wiped out? That is a bit easy to control...

You generated the world in .14, there will be no invasions of any kind.

I have seen that PC versions come with an update-batch-file... Linux versions don't. May that be the problem?

Oh, sorry I mislead you, then;  I didn't see that.  I'd say that is the problem, yes.  The updater would do that eldritch magic.  That was wrong, too, I think; that thing updates raws and there was no raw fix that I know of.

I play a game in a world generated in .12, and a game started in .14. I already got a goblin ambush in .16.

Fortress value over 2 millions, over 100 dwarves, over 10 years played, not one single goblin. Some kobold thieves but nothing more. :(

You got thieves.  It's not the .14 bug, then.  (Which wouldn't make sense anyway since I was so wrong about that, still don't know how I missed that little tidbit...)

Do you actually have gobs as neighbors, did they show on embark?

Yes, there were Gobs during embark, not showing on Civ screen though (as they only appear there after the first 'interaction').

I will play some more, see what happens. But I am also quite dissapointed to not find any fun stuff down below. :(

I'm fairly sure even though you got thieves, you have a problem with the way the world got genned in .14 even though Toady says this should be fixed.  I've genned and played several .16 worlds so far and none have behaved like you're describing, so far they've acted much like .12 did if the embark screen showed goblins (ambush around year 2).

First a Kobold Thief fell asleep outside to lure my army away and then they arrived. :D :D :D After so many years... no hope was left. :D


hmmm... six goblin swordsmen. I am insulted! But at least I can kill 'em. :D

EDIT: okay, 12 goblins, 1 cave crawler. Sent my militia head on. Result: No wounded on my side, all of them dead on their side. :) NEXT! :D

EDIT2: first time I had a changes of ages! nice! :D

.13 genned world, no goblin civs, it's been 2 years since I updated.  No thieves, no nothing (except a dragon that one of my dwarves soloed....)

is there any hope?

I think it takes a bit for the game to realize that invasions are back on. It took 2 years for me to get a goblin siege, and now I'm getting them left and right
