Tree farming is a kind of farming, right? I've been trying to build an underground tree farm, and I wanted opinions on the optimal height above the muddy floor to leave for the trees to grow. How tall will fungiwood and other multi-log trees get?

Let me have a look when I get home. I have a clear glass arboretum that started out fully underground, and now hosts ~70-30 split between surface trees and cavern shrooms after expansion.
I don't chop down the trees, but rather pasture all my flying livestock there (although I can only pasture them on the ground floor, so they don't fly through the upper branches, but it's the thought that counts.)


Edit: Okay, the arboretum is 11 z-layers tall, the first two layers of which are below ground level. There are 47 trees in it, 7 of which are cavern trees, so less cavern trees than I thought.
The tallest cavern tree is a Blood Thorn at 4 z-layers. The ones that are mushrooms have reached 3 z-layers, but haven't developed caps.
The tallest surface tree in the arboretum is a gingko at 5 z-layers.
