Settings for Butcher's Shop Refuse Pile?
« on: October 06, 2010, 09:42:11 am »

^Subject.

I normally turn everything off except for "fresh raw hide." (I want the tanner to have things to work on.) Am I doing this right?

Depends on your goal. I usually put a refuse pile close to the tanner's shop (which is next door to the butcher) that only takes raw hides, and now that we can, I'll add a new refuse pile close to my bonecrafter's shop that only holds bones and skulls. This way the hides are delivered to a point that minimizes travel time and spoilage chance for the hides.

Another consideration is the distance to meat stockpiles, as these can also rot if not stockpiled in a timely fashion.

This. No wonder I had a miasma problem.

Thanks!

As for the OP, I've never bothered with refuse piles in between butcher's and tanner's shops. Just seems like an extra step of work. Does having fresh hide stockpiled prevent it from rotting?

I always just put my butcher and tanner topside with the refuse pile.

I don't think so. The purpose for that is having a place where the tanner can get the necessary components before everything rots.

Also, nothing rots in stockpiles.  Shit'll rot in the butcher's, though, if you aren't quick enough with the hauling.

Yep. Its fantastic - I keep one stockpile just outside for Bodyparts/Corpses, and one inside by my Bonecrafters for Bones/Skulls/Shells/Etc, with the butcher shop somewhere in between. Works great.

Awesome.

I'm not sure why this makes me so happy.
