Is spoilermetal armor worth it?
« on: October 04, 2010, 06:25:30 pm »

I've heard that plain ol' steel stops goblins' iron weapons perfectly fine, so I'm just wondering if there's a real point to it (other than the cloaks)

Steel may stop goblins, but it wont stop clowns, FBs, titans, megabeasts, etc.

Megabeasts/titans aren't [trapavoid], are they? I'm pretty sure dragons aren't, dunno about the others...
FB's won't be a problem cause I wall of the caverns so far...

Keep in mind though,  cotton candy cloaks can get XXwetXX, and naturally, it'll fall apart after a while
so yeah, once you have enough cotton candy axes, spears, swords, etc, and if you have nothing else to do, (cotton candy statues for teh lulz, the knowledge that a single set of 10 masterwork serrated disks in a weapon trap acts as something like half of your fortress value, etc etc) you might as well make some cotton candy armor, which doesn't get wet

Most metals are heavy, and will slow down your dwarves. Some metals are quite light and won't give you this problem.

I made candy mail shirts, helms, and shields for my entire military, but didn't want to spend tons of it to make boots, instead just using stolen goblin boots. Next siege arrives, half my militia lose their feet...

This is a feature, not a bug, correct?
You're playing Dwarf Fortress.  There isn't much of a distinction.

So it's Candy floss > FB/clown/megabeast > Steel > Everything else, eh?

Hmm.. Maybe I should start bothering to actually mine the stuff.
