Cripes! Clothing Conundrum!
« on: October 04, 2010, 04:54:19 pm »

I'm having a slight issue with clothing.  I can't seem to get my dorfs to get RID of it.

After repelling a few goblin thieves via horrible impalement on giant corkscrews, I've got a pile of clothes laying on top of my trap.  It came from the perforated goblin, but after unforbidding it my dorfs won't gather it up.  I marked it for dumping, and they won't dump it either.  It's been laying there for a full year now, and it's annoying the heck out of me.

How can I get them to get rid of it?

Give them bedrooms with cabinets so they can put them away - if you look at the items with (k), you'll probably discover that they are Owned items.

Note that objects owned by children will probably never be put away until the child grows up and becomes an adult.

P.S. If you don't get this note, let me know and I'll write you another.
It's amazing how dwarves can make a stack of bones completely waterproof and magmaproof.
It's amazing how they can make an entire floodgate out of the bones of 2 cats.

^Probably that^, on an extremely OT note the title of this thread makes me want to marry you.

You now come across one advantage of going the Boatmurdered route: burning the world leaves no goblin clothes to fuss over.

Awestruck by my alliteration?  Awesome.

In any case, I checked those items.  Not claimed by anyone.

While your wondrous wordsmithing was both witty and worthwhile, your usage of the underused expletive Cripes, was what properly prompted the production of my proposal.

Make a clothing stockpile by the edge of the map and let the monkeys steal it? OR just gift them to the next trading caravan.

If my dwarves were putting them in stockpiles, then I'd not have this problem.

They are owned by some dwarves, so the only solution is an atom smasher or the gentle application of magma.

Or just hide these pieces of clothing so that you don't have to see the mess anymore.

Have you set dwarves to collect refuse from outside? Disabled by default, common issue.

Elves do it in trees. Humans do it in wooden structures. Dwarves? Dwarves do it underground. With magma.

No, they aren't owned by anyone according to the loo(k) menu.

And they are on an inside tile, on the edge of my bridge.  And it's a moot point, since I'd already set them to gather refuse from outside so they'd get the monkey that got his leg chopped off and then wandered off to die.

Can they be dumped? d>b>d is the mass dump designator.

Alternatively, are your clothing/finished good stockpiles set to only accept a certain material or type of goods?

They aren't owned, you say? That's odd.

Did you d-b-c them?

he (or she) is talking about goblinite clothes. make sure that in 'o'ptions, 'r'efuse, you have it set to collect refuse from 'o'utside. things marked for dumping that are outside need this option if anything is gonna happen.  also you probably have just not set up the right stockpile for the clothes, otherwise after being unforbidden your dwarves should have gotten it.

if both those things dont fix that, loo'k' at the clothes and then 'h'ide them, so at least they wont bother you.
