Well, I'll just go with some of each idea. For now, let's watch things die.

You sit around for a while at the register until lunch arrives. You packed yourself a bit of spiked pie, a nice sandwich as an appetizer, and a small strip of steak you'd been cooking from a distance all day.

You bite into the sandwich. A huge noise starts to come from the downtown area, and a mob of people begins rushing away from it screaming.

Boss: "Wait here, I'll go check it out."

Boss leaves the store, and some... Thing grabs onto him. You rush out to help him, but the thing won't let go. Upon closer inspection it's more of a tendril than anything else, and appears to be draining blood from him at a dangerous rate.
You try smashing, cutting, and generally blasting the tendril, but nothing works. You look downtown an a black mass with tendrils flying everywhere is stationed on a building. It feels dangerous, but you can also feel two other beings, they feel helpful. You think whatever is here can save you, but further inspection shows that the beast is far stronger than them at this point.
Each of those beings is more than twice our strength, we should focus on saving Boss.

It's all happening in the game, you're viewing the event as possible alchemy components.
Since it's pretty much obvious what's going to happen to it, that skyscraper doesn't survive.

If he weren't sleeping in all his custodial powers he could. The problem with tendril guy is that he can't make us fly at terminal velocity by tapping our foot with a most likely dirty mop, so advantage Janitor.

Also how do you guys propose we get the tendril off of Boss?
