I can't join this, sorry. I just got abducted into the Mathemagician's Lair and I can't get out for Chaos slayin' time on weekends.

Well anyway I've read enough of the rules for a basic grasp. I like the system, it is sound though it does have a few oddities. I won't put the effort into making a character until we hammer out a time and I know I can make it.

No, I'm not angry at you. More at Cthulhu, because he doesn't seem to be able to clarify these things personally.

Verily- Flaking.

Deathwatch is the third RPG in the Warhammer 40k RPG lineup
anything in the rulebook generally goes As for the people who don't have the book, we'll set up a time to get together and I'll get you straightened out.  If you have the book

Sorry Tack, but I think he made this pretty clear.

Man, do I feel sorry for Cthulhu.  Look what you people did to his poor thread.

Anyway, I'm still on board, since I have no assignments outside of class to worry about, and only two weeks of class anyway.  Although I do have plans on this Friday afternoon and next Friday night.

Question about character creation: I understand the mechanic of choosing a chapter (mostly, it's a thick book), but would we actually have to play-straight on the given choices?  I don't mean making up new ones or anything.  Specifically, I was wondering if I could take one of the given chapters as it's rules, and make up another chapter as a look and backstory.  No rules changes, just fluff.

Wait, according to that, how would you become the Devastator with the big gun?
Also, I'm decided on being a Storm Warden Devastator. Let's hope I roll high on my weapon and ballistic skill.
Heh, I'll bet any of you money that my DH character has a higher WS than at least one marine.

Once your tenure as a Tac Marine is up you can go back to whatever role you were best at.  That's where Devastator/Assault/etc. sergeants come from.

Anyway, I wasn't aware that not being here at 12:30 AM to explain that this isn't another abortive freeform play-by-post RPG counts as flaking, especially considering I had posted in the thread not two hours before.

Stuff about messing with chapter choices

Yeah, that's fine.  The only second founding chapters in the game are Storm Wardens and Black Templars, so there's plenty of room for picking a chapter derived from another chapter's geneseed.

Anyway, Friday's going to be the best day for it, I'm going to tentatively say 5 or 6 PM.  Aqizzar apparently won't be able to make it for two weeks, so if you guys can handle another two weeks we can get together to make the characters and stuff in the meantime.

Yes.  I know we're off to a bit of a rocky start, but I have great things in mind for this.

Hell... I'm in.

Question is, will I need to read the entire manual? Work isn't that kind to me.

No, just enough to make a character and get a decent grasp of the rules.  It's not that complicated, everything is a d100, aiming to get below the relevant attribute score.  Skills and the like just add or subtract points from your ability score in blocks of 10.

Actually, I might be able to make 5-6PM tomorrow.  Uh, 5-6PM my time, which doesn't matter that much.  If I'm not online though, I'm probably not going to be.

That said, I have to actually make a character and read the rules and stuff, which could take a little while.  Especially that climb over "Solo vs Team" mountain.

Now someone explain to me why the book that's more expressly about fighting aliens that any other doesn't include more information about Eldar and Orks.
