Are you applying any sort of modifiers to these rolls, or does sending one random person to do a job work just as well as sending twenty specialists?
Also, I seem to have had 100 water appear out of nowhere
My farmers grow crops.
My traders keep looking for water.
Ten miners and my masons build more housing.
Twenty miners mine more ore
The rest of my miners check out that pit and see if there's any chance of tunneling under this lake.
My mages and five of my crafters try to rig up some sort of water purification system
My other ten crafters try to work out some sort of forge
Your farmers plant the seeds. You find a small pool of fresh water. You make a single house. You could possibly tunnel udner the lake but you would need climbing equipment. You manage to come up with some plans for the purifications system, but you will need metal to make it. You use the ore to make a forge, if only you had some fuel.
Half of my miner keep digging for room, half of them for ore.
The masons continue building housing until there is enough room for everybody.
The traders keep looking for food.
The 3 villagers become farmers and start tilling plot to grow mushroom on.
HAlf of the craftsmen create agriculturalt ools (Plough, schythes, that kind of stuff) while the other half go exploring in the other direction, looking for anything of interest (Ore, food water...)
Your miners come down with cave fever, they won't be able to work today. You build another house. There is no room for farms, you don't have any materials. You go exploring and find yourself an ore deposit.
