So while my dwarfs are gaining skill in crafting their stuff, how can i get rid of the low quality rock goods that are worth crap?

Sell them en masse to caravans for raw materials. Wood, food and thread will do.

For those that melt in magma, magmadump them, atomsmashing still works.

Alternatively, you can use them as cheap trade goods for the elves.

So... to to drop them in magma, i make a zone on a draw bridge over magma, then flip a lever to drop stuff in?

You could just dump them too.  If you specifically want to destroy them, create a garbage dump over magma and dump them there.

I like to quantum stockpile them and wall them up and let them add to my fortress wealth and tasty lag.

mass exports gives you the equivalent of 'points.'  Your exported wealth is checked when considering migrants and moods.  Furniture sucks to export and is made from cheap rock.  Perfect for atom smashing or melting.

Misnomer - create the garbage dump NEXT to the open pit-o-magma, and your dwarfs will automatically chuck it in.

I dig down to the semi-molten rock. Anything that touches it will vanish from the game.

The top of the chute is towards the middle of the fortress, within easy access to the stockpiles. Any goods that fail to reach the quality requirements are chucked into the magma layer, and the semi-molten rock where even magma immune things will vanish.

I do this to prevent my fortress from being overwhelmed with junk goods. I prefer to make a few items worth 50,000 dwarfbucks rather than items worth only a few dwarfbucks a piece.

yeah... until toady brings in some sort of "trade everything in your depot" it just seems like too much work to bother

That's pretty great advice, simpler to set up than a magma burner and more secure to boot.  Thanks!

Uh... just trade them. Doesn't matter to traders that they're no-quality.

Use macros. For trading I use one that's just "down, Enter" twenty times and repeat it until the trader profit is where I want it.
