The problem with reality TV is that it's not reality at all. When they put a bunch of people on an island I don't want them to play silly games, I want to watch those mofos starve as they fail to find anything edible.

I think you're all overlooking an important point. COPS was awesome. I pine for the days when reality TV was just a bunch of pigs playing mind games with junkies before throwing them on the sidewalk. My childhood addiction to that show greatly contributed to my irrational distrust of police officers. And it hasn't been all bad since. Remember that one with Flava Flav? That was a pretty cool show.

Reality TV has similarities to modern PC gaming.  Aside from pretty much just Blizzard and Valve (sort of), all mainstream PC games these days are just ports of console games.  Sure they could make actual PC games that took advantage of the platform's specific strengths, but it's just so much cheaper to design games for the more lucrative consoles and then quickly port them over to PC.

Reality TV has a similar story.  Real TV shows need to pay people with actual skill in writing, directing, acting, etc.  With Reality TV you can skip all of that because you just need to film a bunch of random people doing stuff and edit it together.  It doesn't even have to flow realistically because people just accept it due to someone telling them it's real.

Seriously, what is the appeal?

Just don't watch reality TV.  You don't have to retroactively kill a guy over it.

And you don't have to jump into every discussion with the same argument.

Have we had discussions on retroactively killing people before?

No, and that's the point.  You use the same damn 'Just ignore it' argument with practically everything.

So, was saying that right after bringing modern gaming into yet another discussion some kind of attempt at irony?

Sounds like some of you guys just don't get along.  Let's strand you guys on an island/make you live in the same house/compete to be Trump's new apprentice/make you lose weight together.  That's why reality TV is such an awful thing, it's pitting incompatible (apparently normal) people against each other and watching them fail to realize they're all adults who can see past their differences and come to terms.

The funny thing is that the real world does the exact same thing, and the results are far uglier.

Well Soap Operas actually have actors and stories...  Some of those actors end up doing nothing worth noting.  Some of them go on to play Buffy Summers.

Oh, oh, I think I know the answer to this one, is it Gangrene, for 500?

"So, Mr Johnson... Would you rather lose an arm or a leg?"  :P

But yea, seriously, if they AT LEAST gave the people a good script, I could live with it. Sadly, they keep going under the pretense that everyone watching it thinks its real... Sadly, there ARE a lot of people whom DO think its real.
