The Father of Reality TV
« on: October 03, 2010, 10:46:08 am »

I now know who to irrationally blame for the atrocity that is reality television.

John Langley, creator of the show COPS and the "Father of Reality Television".  Now if only we could go back and time and drop an elephant on him.

Just don't watch reality TV.  You don't have to retroactively kill a guy over it.

And you don't have to jump into every discussion with the same argument.

Since this is a sort of anti-reality tv post, I have to ask, what's wrong with a bunch of dummies doing silly things on tv for the world's entertainment and getting paid to do it?

It's sucking up bucks and viewers that could have been allocated to shows that don't have sub-zero quality levels?

Have we had discussions on retroactively killing people before?

I actually love the concept of reality TV. Something that isn't acted, something where the emotions and results are all genuine. It's what I look for in (procedurally generated) games. Where did it go wrong?

Somewhere around the point they took them off an island and replaced them with Guidos.

Dear god, reality TV. Well, I guess somthing has to keep easliy amused people entertained, and it does have it's moments from time to time. Very, very rare moments, mind you.

Obviously if it is doing this then the people who it is "stealing" like it better. Seems like the issue is not with the reality show but with the show that is not doing as good.

And think about it, if all reality shows just quit would the fans move to shows YOU like? Most likely not, the obviously don't like them or they would not be watching the reality show.

All that it would do is make a large number of people unhappy.

Except reality shows costs next to nothing. That is in fact why producers like them so much.

The failure to realise all people are actors, especially when their actions are broadcasted to an audience of thousands?

To be honest I haven't watched TV in ages, I was just pointing out why I think people have a problem with them.
