Killing an out-of-reach forgotten beast?
« on: October 03, 2010, 01:32:53 am »

I had a forgotten beast spawn underground, in the middle of an almost-entirely-aquatic layer and I'm finding it nigh impossible to reach. (With the possible exception of trying to drain the area. Except I'm not sure about the feasibility of that.) The main problem is that ever since it appeared, my FPS dropped from around 80 to 20. Any suggestions? (I'll also take less-than-legit ones.)

if he swims, he can climb onto any floor adjacent to the water's surface.  You should be able to dig down somewhere and prepare a bait animal + cavein trap, and channel away the last floor tile exposing the room to water where he is.  You can do this safely by using a hatchcover over the downward staircase leading to the trap zone.

While adding magma to anything will make it dwarfy, adding the word "magma" to your post does not necessarily make it funny.

Water doesn't stop caveins... Get a pretty large one on a lever, lock a lever-puller in a room with it, and pull the lever when the FB's right underneath. If you miss, it still can't get at you, so you're fine.

I second the cave-in motion. I had a FB armed with the dreaded "Deadly Dust" sleeping in one of my caverns, and I didn't relish the idea of losing 3 or more dwarfies to his asphyxiating fury, so I crept in there and quietly CRUSHED HIM WITH TONS OF ROCK!!! :o

I have played a lot of forts and nothing I have done seems to regain back any decent amount of FPS.

What FPS is lost, remains lost. Abandon fort and hence forth, kill everything bloodlessly and butcher all animals.

Engraved on the monitor is an exceptionally designed image of FPS in Dwarf Fortress and it's multicore support by Toady. Toady is raising the multicore. The artwork relates to the masterful multicore support by Toady for the Dwarf Fortress in midwinter of 2010. Toady is surrounded by dwarves. The dwarves are rejoicing.
