Trees in the water
« on: October 03, 2010, 01:15:08 am »

So there are full-grown trees and shrubs in the reservoir and canals I've had since practically the beginning. The trees are blocking the flow of water so I can't refill areas where I need it. What am I supposed to do about that?

If you planned ahead and built a floodgate/drawbridge at the source, cut off the water and go clean it out.  If not, tunnel around it and try to avoid flooding ;)

To prevent this, I build floor in the water path before filling it; other ways are exposing it to sunlight, so underground flora can never grow there; or setting stockpile space that covers the water path.

Would floor work? It seems like the water would cover it in mud anyway.

I guess I've got some tunneling to do.

Constructed floor works fine, I use it all the time.  It allows shrubs to grow but not trees.

Are you certain that it allow shrubs? That's be awesome to construct floors as road.

A 'cheat' is to floor your water tunnels with stockpiles that accept nothing.

Yes, when I've used constructed floor in the past (31.12) and it gets wet/muddy, underground shrubs start to grow on those tiles once the caverns have been breached.  I haven't checked this since I started playing 31.14 though.

Easier than floor, less cheaty than stockpiles: pave over your water tunnels with roads to prevent plants growing in them.
