Single best piece of armor?
« on: October 03, 2010, 01:08:26 am »

I've done some testing which is highly inconclusive.

So, I am trying to figure out what to make out of my blue stone for the best possible armor.  My steelworks is in full swing so anything metal can be masterwork steel.  Which makes me think that something like a cloak should be blue?

What do you reccomend?

cloaks are clothing and will wear away to nothing in time, and blue is not a rewnewable resource.

Make a snazzy mail shirt, instead of a cloak, out of the blue stone. Less chance of a civilian grabbing it up.

I'd think that unless you had a huge army or were saving tons for strange moods, that you'd be able to get enough for full equipment... But you don't need to outfit your whole army in it, because goblins only get up to iron, which steel works perfectly well against. Try weapons instead.

Right, but there's stuff that make goblins look like groundhogs, you know.

Yeah.

I'mma play with clowns.

"Cyan" is a viable font color tag, even it it isn't listed in the color options. (How appropriate!)

And you probably don't want my opinion on anything combat. I have yet to win any fights against goblins, let alone clowns.

Adamantine breastplate? One wafer? How can I go wrong?

This is a feature, not a bug, correct?
You're playing Dwarf Fortress.  There isn't much of a distinction.

Breastplates and weapons are common top choices.

Best possible armor is good offence, hence make battle axes of the blue stuff. For the whole fort.
If not axes, then swords. Makes a world of difference when your dorfs just keep cutting off heads and libs, when they used to bruise, imho.

Engraved on the monitor is an exceptionally designed image of FPS in Dwarf Fortress and it's multicore support by Toady. Toady is raising the multicore. The artwork relates to the masterful multicore support by Toady for the Dwarf Fortress in midwinter of 2010. Toady is surrounded by dwarves. The dwarves are rejoicing.

Only wearing breastplates will get your dwarves' arms chopped off... Go fer axes instead; dead enemies can't hurt you.

then wear both breastplates and mail shirts.  But if I could only have one them cyan, it would be the mail shirt.

Agreed. Mail shirts have better coverage.

I figured as much.

Also, would an iron mask have better coverage than steel helm+steel cap+leather hood for general purposes, such as gobbolinzoids?

Also, leather vs. silk, which offers better defense?  If equal, which is lighter?

I'd guess that leather is better than silk, but silk lighter...
