Test Your Religious Knowledge
« on: October 02, 2010, 03:52:21 pm »

It's not here, but...there's a quiz on religious knowledge, made by Pew Survey when they quized people about religious knowledge. This quiz has been in the news for showing that atheists know more about Chrisitanity than, say, Christans. Obivously, this drives me a little insane, so I decided to take the test for myself:

My result:

The test only selected 15 questions from the survey, and the other questions that were excluded from the test were really, really hard. Also, remember that just because you self-identify as an atheist doesn't mean you actually are one...

EDIT: Whatever you do, DON'T start any religious argument here. Take it to the Atheist thread, if you must. I am only interested in the test itself.

14/15. I guessed on 10, 11, and 15 (I blame not being American), but still got them right. Got the Jewish Sabbath one wrong. Go Atheism?

Seemed like half religious knowledge and half religious trivia, honestly.

13/15, I'm a Christian.

Seemed like half religious knowledge and half religious trivia, honestly.
This. U.S. legislation has nothing to do with religion, really.

The 2 questions were Old Testament related.

Some questions are not even very clear on what religion they're about. A part of catholic believe that the wine and bread actualy become the blood and flesh of christ, others just say its a symbol. I say this is no better then one of those "are you a pirate or a ninja?" quizzes.

EDIT: 13/15, guessed a catholic and a jewish question wrong.

10/15. Notably all the the questions I got wrong were about Christianity, probabaly because those were far more specific than the questions about other religions.

11/15 (so many "was this person part of this religion" questions :\)

And that other thread looks like the result of a misinterpreted question.

12/15.  Atheist life (actually, I got most of the stuff from the RE I used to do).

I got the court ones wrong because I never really heard of these cases and the Awakening one.

All these questions pertain to mainstream religions....

Lets see some ancient Celtic, Germanic questions, lets see some questions about fucking Hellenism or Norse...

Transubstantiation is official Catholic doctrine, that's what it's asking.

I only missed the one about Jewish Sabbath.

6/15

And I guessed them all after the first one, sounds about right for a person with nonreligious parents and never being to a catholic school or any of that.

11/15, that's just deplorable. Meh I can always say I'm not an US citizen and there are next to no visible Mormon communities here.
