I still prefer to have as little overlapping as possible, but I suppose each person has a different style.

edit: also, try to get their maps. and start exploring! you need new land.

Of course overlapping isn't optimal, but unused land is even less optimal. Overlapping land isn't "lost" income or production, land you don't claim is. But yeah, I guess personal preference plays in as well. :P

also, did I read the difficulty right? Is this playing on one of the most difficult settings? If so, be prepared to be the AI's bitch. At difficulty level 3 the AI and the player start out on equal footing. All of the harder difficulty settings start the AI out with more and more advantages, for instance 2 settlers instead of 1 at the start which makes an enormous difference. At level 7 the only hope you have is to either pull a miracle in trading (trade technologies between civs: Buy low sell high. Even better, sell technologies for monetary income to the point where you gimp the AI's income so you're the only one actively researching) or being the only seafaring civilisation on an island map.

Trade maps, and try to get the most favourable trades on techs.

FACT: Three civilizations actively trading their technologies advances further than two civilizations.

Agree, we can always kick their ass later on. Try to trade technologies with them.

Aye.  Make friends, keep trading techs to build yourselves up.  Work on that flotilla we want.  If we find a fourth nation to declare war on later, even better, but finding more land should be our concern.

Also, nice city distribution!  I normally space mine out a lot more, but I guess when land is at a severe premium...

Good god what the fuck is wrong with LPers' computers. My Mac is crappy but at least it doesn't randomly crash and eat saves.

Macs may not work as well as Windows but they also don't fail as well.

Yep I've never heard of Linux failing on it's own either. It's easy to break though.
