Blast to the past: Lets Play Civ III - Gold
« on: October 02, 2010, 07:50:18 am »

So yea. The name says it all. Due to me saving up for a decent computer (of which it will be the only decent computer i'v ever had) and my shite computer here likely catching fire if it saw V's graphics..... I thought it would be a good idea to crack out ol' Civ III - Gold.

Settings: World: Huge,  Barbs: Restless, Land/water mass: VERY thin continents (i.e Ships will be VERY important, Climate: Arid (a hard games a good game), Temp: Temperate, Age: 4 billion (not to rocky, not to flat.), Difficulty: Monarch (Third from top), AI: 10 countries.

And so it starts...

What country shall we be? First to two votes wins. Random is classified as a country.

WARNING: I may or may not of played any Civ for the past 3-4 years.  :P

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

And so, you and your fellow Mongolian counterparts take the first step towards a great Civilization. You decide to create your founding city on a pleasant looking coastline, sending a small group of tribe's members off to scout the land around you.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

And what would you, kind-and-ow-so-powerful leader shall we do first?

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

And what shall we tell our wise-men and elders to dedicate their time to?

IMPORTANT: Are the pics showing up?

EDIT: Image issue fixed.

Haven't played Civ III, and I'm guessing no religions in this one, so...

Pottery.  Let's get our city growing.  Later we can start sending out troops for conquest.

Bronze working. And build a scout, then a warrior, then a settler if you can. Pottery kind of sucks in civ 3.

He started with pottery, no need to research it.
I suggest bronze working.

The app shut down for no reason so....  >:(  We start again. Bronze making is the tech, scout first, warrior second, settler third...

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

And so, the soon to be great city of Karakorum was founded!

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

However, soon after sending both of your scout party's out...

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

You realise that you are stranded on a small island...

With a settler on the way to making your next city and your capital content, your elders manage to discover the art of Bronze working. What would you like to do next and research next? (ref off the last tech image.

Research ceremonial burial to get temples so you can expand the culture for your newly built cities ASAP. Then rush to map making for galleys.

Make the next settlements you take be these spots:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

The ones marked with an I in the middle are the ones you should rush for. So much cattle. <3

Don't make too many archers. You're on an island with no other civs, and while barbarians might pop out of the woodworks you should be able to prevent that with your scout and your current archer. Focus on getting settlers and workers out so you can expand your infrastructure.

EDIT: Oh, and I hope you don't have your workers on automate. Those roads of yours should be stretching towards your next cities, not just randomly sprawling.

why found 2 cities with heavy overlappin of borders, when 1 city is enough to take all cattle and grain without overlapping with your capital?

You won't be able to take advantage of the fish and all of the shield-grass then.

Besides, 2 cities are almost always preferable to 1.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

And so, the once humble village of the Mongols, had spread, to become the many great towns, of the Mongols! But on the eve of the ships creation, strange people were seen on the horizon...

Upon contacting them, their leader names themselves as Hannibal, the hero of Carthage and the scourge of a place called Rome...

What should we do? They offer us great maps of their lands and contact with strange people called "Indian's".
