Dwarves don't wanna eat
« on: November 27, 2006, 03:17:00 pm »

Hi, first post   :p . Great game, but I can't really play it until this bug is solved... When the first dwarf caravan comes, i get about 15 messages telling me my dwarves can't eat because the item is inaccesible. One dwarf runs outside and grabs a cheese off the wagon, and eats it. Then all my dwarves just refuse to eat and all starve to death. This is really constricting my gameplay, as you can imagine   :p so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Don't starve your dwarves, and they won't steal food off the caravan.

If I was to take a guess at what happened, the block of cheese was the only food the caravan had. All your dwarves were hungry, so they all tried to steal that one bit of food. That'd result in 1 dwarf managing to do so, and the others would throw an error.

However, I could be reading you wrong - did your other dwarves refuse to eat even though there was other food avalible?

You might want to check that you havn't accidentally walled in your dwarves with a workshop.

Yes, lots and lots and lots. About 50 raw turtle, and barrels of plants and stuff   :p
And no, my food stockpile is totally accesible, I didn't change anything.

They can't eat raw fish, it has to be processed at a fishery. They also can't eat all kinds of plants unprepared. Only plump helmets can be farmed and eaten raw. Everything else needs to be processed and then cooked.

Most of the plants that can be gathered outside are edible raw as well.

The turtle processing will also bring you shells; that's a good time to make sure somebody is ready to start crafting with shell before they rot away.

Unfortunately, prepare fish doesn't produce the bones or shells -- eating them does, as does leaving them out to rot.
