Hospital/Healthcare
« on: September 30, 2010, 06:34:26 am »

Before we start, I'm still on .12 for some reason...

Anyways, in my current fort, I've had this Axe Lord who got her foot pretty badly smashed up.  The doctor set the bone, sutured it up, put in a cast, etc... so it says no health care problems.

She's been sleeping in the goddamn hospital for years now.

Do injured but healed dwarves ever get back up and how long does it take?

Most will get back up immediately.

Leg and foot problems tend to be really iffy though.

I've had dwarves with three or four breaks on one leg hop back up as soon as the cast is applied, run into battle, and rebreak everything in the fight, to get carried back and have a new cast applied and run off immediately after that one is finished.

I've had dwarves get a fracture on one bone and lay in the hospital not even needing a cast for four years before getting back up.

Mostly it will depend on your dwarves' healing speed and possibly their ability to fight infections, I think if they start getting it bad before they're done in the hospital they'll just lay there until one of them wins. Also, you should check the health screen for that person and make sure that it doesn't say "Sx"(Ability to stand lost) by their name. If it does then it's time to build a wall around their bed and put a door on it and lock it so the next dwarf can get at the equipment.

Doesn't traction bench prevent them from running away? I remeber seeing something about immobilizing, but I might be wrong.
