Shortest Lived Forts
« on: September 30, 2010, 03:27:53 am »

So tell the community about the shortest forts you ever ran.  My shortest so far was an embark with a magma pipe.  A fire imp popped out as soon as I unpaused and shot fire right at my wagon.  Dwarf parts all over the place from the 100 barrels of booze blowing up.

In 40d, I once embarked directly in front of a cave mouth. The occupants stampeded out and ripped my Dwarves to shreds. Some of them didn't even have time to jump down off the wagon.

Embarked with only an anvil and a couple nuggets in an untamed wilds.  Spawned right next to a giant jaguar.  That cat was a f**king surgeon.

Embarked in a valley with a magma pipe in the mountains.  Accidentally tapped it about 10 minutes play time in.  Flooded the whole fortress - and they were all trapped inside.

I embarked on an island, saw the ocean was frozen, and decided to dig a fort in there. I forgot that it wasn't a freezing biome...

Couple years ago....

Started up DF for the first time, looked at the screen, saying "This looks like crap" and abandoned. In fact, abandoning took too long so i killed the process and deleted the folder. Thus, not a single in-game turn was spent and all the 7 dorfs died a horrible death in the bit grinder.

Started my first fort in Untamed Wilds, found out that sasquaches are hostile about 10 minutes in.

So my crundles are staying intact unless they're newly spawned... until they are exposed to anything that isn't at room temperature.  This mostly seems to mean blood, specifically, their own.  Then they go poof very quickly.

I embarked on a volcano. Right next to it when it started spewing magma all over the place. It seems they died of boiling booze instead of magma...

Embarked on a sinister land, surrounded by beakdogs. Tore up.

First reclaim effort, better equippped. Only three survivors, one went berserk on the other two.

Second reclaim effort. Same berserk dwarf ripped up all but three survivors again. One went raving mad and the others started getting ominously twitchy with on and off tantrums. I abandoned.

I just found out that damp stone really is no laughing matter :( I washed out my entire fortress after being in it about 15 minutes.

Try to dig moat to protect wagon -> Miner dies due to cave-in.

Embark -> Giant Eagle eats all dwarves

Not a troll, not some basement-dwelling neckbeard, but indeed a hateful, rude little person. On the internet.
I'm actually quite nice IRL, but you people have to pay the price for that.

Now stop being distracted by the rudeness, quit your accusations of trollery, and start arguing like real men!

embarked in a place where the lakes freeze seasonally.  My wagon happened to spawn right on a frozen lake and I didn't know till it thawed, while ALL 7 OF MY DWARVES WERE STANDING ON IT.

They drowned.
