I had expected more opposition. I am in favor of Dwarmin's proposed governmental change.

Let's discuss plans for the eventual power structure. I think it would be fun to branch into guilds, with one or more generals, and an overall ruler.

Perkwunos is the new character, a.k.a. me :P

There is not really a better replacement, is there?

I feel like objecting to the gov. change and propose a far more democratic system, although it probalby didn't work that way back in those times (i.e., democracy wasn't 'invented')

And if we invent democracy, our grand DM will have to make all decisions for us, since he decides the will of the people... which sorta removes the point of the whole thing we're doing here.

Hey you forgo put me in the list :s

But I'm game.

Well, we have 2 craftsman, I had to put ONE name, I just picked randomly. I say we have a vote off! Ochita vs Diakron!
blackdutchie: I agree. I'm talking Nobles only votes case of a disagreement. Not the common people!

EDIT: Okay, this is where I messed up...

Head of Labor (The Steady Hand), responsible for crafters and crafting in general. Decides what and how much to trade In conjunction with head of Exploration. Appointed to Ochita OR Diakron.

Perkwunos/Dwarf is in charge of construction, not crafting.

Ochita had collected a couple of blocks of clayand wooden planks to make a stage. Collecting a crowd he began his speach.
"Fellow friends and villagers! As you might know a new nobility member is wanting to take a position. A position that is rightfully mine! I have more experience, I have lost much, I am planning trade! The sprits themselves have told me that I deserve this, my daughter included! Look at what I have helped to make. The quern that most of you use! The new wheels on the land-boats! And know. I will always have your needs in mind. So choose me! Thankyou."

Well, Diakron has conceded and the position of Head of Labor belongs to Ochita!

In return, Diakron is assigned the position of

Head of Armament and Supply (Bearer of Burdens), responsible for outfitting and housing of troops and peace keepers, and production of weapons, armor and specialty equipment, as well as research and development into weapons, war mounts, tactics and what have ya.

Now, remember, all these jobs are pretty wide open to interpretation. Use your imagination.

I agree with the government's proposal, but I don't think we should elect a chief yet. If the people request it, Oleb can act as a figurehead, but not more.

For the rest of my turn, I'll improve the organisations of the farmlands: big fields are more productive than a lot of smaller ones, and irrigations should be improved too.

(Sorry this is taking so long. I've been rather busy and distracted and all. Hopefully, after this, updates will be more regular.)

MEGA-UPDATE

Ronald "Plump of Helmets" (Blackdutchie):
(AUTO-SUCCESS) Really, a clay tablet is just like a clay brick, and therefore easy to make. Now, time to prepare for the scouting expedition! Wait, you forgot some of the items. Like the boat, or the bows/arrows. (3) You quickly borrow some of the items you need. You don't have enough boats for everybody, or bows, or arrows, but at least you can start scouting.

Ochita (Ochita):
After making sure that the craftsmen were making some beer for trade, and that the construction of a road has started, you start to see if you could power a quern with the flow of the river. (2) Despite spending most of your time on it, you can't figure it out. Maybe you were using the paddles the wrong way? When you can't figure out how to power the quern, you head to the temple. (4) After talking with some of the citizens about your views, you notice that people have been leaving offerings inside it.

Diakron (Diakron):
(5) Your words rally up the citizens, and soon a large group of volunteers forms around you. You pick 10 of the strongest and most trustworthy farmers, and make them take the oath of Themis in front of Oleb (who rather disapproves). (2) Of course, after this police force is gathered together, no one really wants to donate food, or work on a place to house them. However, noticing all the offerings in the temple, you decide to collect some donations in the name of Themis. Thankfully, you manage to collect enough food to feed your police force.

Sheb (Sheb):
You improve your farm with all the snazzy inventions that everyone has made. Afterwards, when you don't need his help anymore, you send your son off to trade. He comes back from Ulmitast with a load of valuable statues.

Oleb I (Nirur Torir):
You find that nobody else in the village can understand your number system enough to use it effectively. You spend most of your time just teaching them how to use it.

Perkwunos (Dwarf):
Quickly gathering the labourers that Oleb has assigned to you, the construction of your wall begins. One of your workers runs to you, yelling about how a large procession of boats is heading towards the village. You quickly call together the Nobility, and run to see what is happening.

Al'akif (Dwarmin):
(4) You help Ronald acquire some more items for the scouting expedition, (3) and you recruit some more hunters from the farmers, and prepare them to go on the scouting expedition.

GOVERNMENT:
(4+1) The citizens accept the Nobility's choice for the head of the village, and life quickly returns to normal. (4) The villagers accept Al'akif's proposal as well. After all, no one wants their families killed and their lives destroyed, if the threat of invasion would ever occur.

BOATS:
Thankfully, leading the boats is the head of the village of Ulmitast. However, as beaches his book, you notice the haunted look on his face. With grave words, he talks about the cannibal's attack on his village, which killed most of his people and drove them out of their village. With nowhere else to turn, they came here. He fears that Nilakost Uristrodum is next.

Oleb spoke with his daughters during lunch, in his hut. "Really, I should have expected people used to a life of farming to have trouble grasping the basics of how to count, but it still bothers me that they're taking so long to figure it out."

Jess spoke up proudly. "I know how to count! I'm a fast learner!"

Oleb chuckled as she demonstrated. An out-of-breath messenger approached the door. "Ulmitast ... Need to speak ... with you." Oleb stood and rapidly left towards the crowd of people by the river, where he guessed the boats were. He idly contemplated that it was probably time to consider an official apprenticeship for Jess, but that could wait.

--- Emergency Nobility Meeting, ten minutes later ---

"It's just like my vision. We need to form a defensive force from those who can be spared from farming. I'd say give half of them spears, and half of them bows. I believe it would be best if they spent their time building a wooden wall around Nilakost, and then practiced with their weapons." He pointed to three citizens who were watching the meeting. "You three. Take your ship and go after Ronald. Tell him what's happened and get him to come back, we'll be needing his expertise."

*Sheb, who was always close to Ulmitast's chief ever since they lost their child together, welcome him, and invite him to stay at his house. He then go with him to the Nobility's meeting.*

"We need to prepare. Our friend here (What's his name anyway?) fought the cannibals and know how they fight. We should listen to him before reaching a decision. In the meantime, we must get ready to defend ourselves. Since the Ulmitaster fought with the cannibals already, I suggest they form the backbone or our army. They shall have spears and bows, and fight alongside our Police and own men. (How many are the Ulmitasters?)

Since the harvest is over, everybody should focus on building a wall, except for the craftsmen and soldiers, who should craft spears, bows and arrows or train. I suggest 40 of our men join the police and the Ulmitaster as fighters. When Ronald come back, we'll need him to go and scout up the river to find when are the cannibals coming.

Do you agree?"

After the council meeting, Sheb shall offer a statue to the spirit of War, Ares, and try to create a Portable Wall, that can protect a warrior in the same way that a stockade protect the Village. (Aka, a shield.)

Perkwunos sat on the foot of a small cliff. A break was had after hours of building in the sun.
In the distance, he saw a tree of some sorts.

"Wonder if I can hit it", he mumbled.
Picking up a stone, he threw it as far as he could, falling short mere feet in front of the tree.
He tried again, with similar results.

Thinking, he looked up to the cliff… climbed it, and picked up a stone.

"Maybe…?"
Propelling the stone with all his force and accuracy, it flew farther than it had before. Much farther, in fact. He smiled to himself - this discovery was likely so simple that it had not yet been seriously thought about, but his mind was already finding uses.

Suddenly, a worker came, nobility following. Many boats were approaching the town, he said. Perkwunos told the nobles to be careful and take shelter in the temple at a moment's notice.
