And why would we? This city is turning into a dictatorship, with unpopular leader (Oleb) needing armed guards to protect them from the crowd. We could at least do it properly, and keep a tight fit on the "military". (You don't want Pretorian Guards, do you?)

Being the one with leading experience, maybe Ronald should lead the armed patrol?

(the scouting bonus for traders would make them better suited to exploration)

A) Spiritualism DOES allow gods to exist, look at Native American (of which i am one)
Perhaps, but if we don't have gods, I see no reason to bring them up. I have enough trouble getting people to not stray from my morale bonus.

Quote
C) this is NOT going to be a military, nor will it be a religious force it answer to the Council with me the temporary  leader, when the village gets bigger and they have more members, we will allow them to control themselves (think of them as the Royal Guards for now :D )
I've changed my action slightly, bringing them more under the overall nobility's influence.

I'll volunteer to lead, if the nobility will accept me. Why risk Ronald chasing geese and dying in a snowstorm, when he should be developing military discipline and tactics in his off time?

Let me start training a light, mobile force of rangers to scout the land, and keep our borders safe, and hunt for game in quiet times.

I support that idea. You shall handle that, while I get to work on thinking about getting something organized for a change.
But clay tablets first.

Damn, I knew I forgot something. Sure I will.

Name: Perkwunos (Proto-Indo-Eurpean fits, I believe :))
Gender: Male
Profession: Builder

Background: Being the son of a middle class farmer, Perkwunos has showed respectable talent in constructing the temple, errecting walls straighter than others, and having some innate feel for construction.

Family tree:
Code: [Select]
Welnos - - - Heus
         |
     Perkwunos

Action: Thinking of the cannibals, what would stop them from attacking us? For all we know, they are barbaric, uncivilized people. Think about how a more common material, such as wood, might be used to defend us. Maybe like an elongated house wall? Hmmm…

Brick building won't protect us. We may think about building a stockade.

Yeah, bricks are nice but too labor-intensive.

OP: could we have an indication of how much labor we may spare from field-duty?

Action: Begin to organize the hunters of our village into squads, so they explore and hunt together better. Put the newly recruited under the command of the more experienced. Having done that, I take co-command of the scouting expedition to the coast and set forth. If our village doesn't have many hunters yet, I'll recruit new people-the young or the disenfranchised, who feel that this could be a lifetime career for them, while sparing our experienced farmers and craftspersons.

Quote
Extreme caution is to be had, and we shall use one or more wooden boats, not reed ones. We shall take with us plenty of food and water, and enough bows, arrows and spears to arm each explorer with 1 of each
<---  good advice, and I'll be doing this.

EDIT: This action shouldn't conflict with Blackdutchies btw. Assume both of our groups will be working together.

(Sorry that the turn is taking so long, I'm a bit distracted right now. (DAMN IT B.O.B.S! CAN'T YOU CAPTURE THAT DAMN COMMAND POST BY YOUSELVES!!!!!!!!!)

MINI-UPDATE:
(5) Al'akif, preparing to help Ronald explore the coast, realizes that Ronald has made no effort to aquire the provisions needed for the expedition. Or the boats.

I continue to work on organizing my hunter squads! I also mandate additional bows and arrows be produced for our new inductees.

Also, I have an idea...EMERGENCY DRAFT!
ngn
Proposal to be voted on: As self appointed "ranger general", I Al'Akif, reserve the right to induct any number of citizens into forestry service during periods of non-harvest or disaster. Only exemptions are Nobles, the very young and old, and prominent skilled citizens. Service entails woodchopping, hunting, trapping and collecting of herbs, amocrng other things deemed vital to the safety of the village. The Emergency Draft is indeed just that, and the order can be rescinded if at least half of the nobility disagrees.

Al'akif and his wife are sitting to a nice down to a nice, homecooked meal...fish! Again...
Desra: So, how was your first day? Slain any Trolls yet?
Al'Akif: I expected that. And, no, I have not! I spent the day finding out we were in no position to explore anything.
Desra: Indeed?
Al'Akif: Indeed. Few bows, little ammo, no supplies. Our only hunters, bitter old men and crazy children. Most of them would die before they got over the first hilltop. I say, village life makes one soft. Things will change. Now that they have Al'Akif leading them!
Desra: Hush and eat your fish "ranger general". You really chose that title for yourself?
Al'Akif: ...

*Sheb is astonished at the speed and mess of the proposals. Actually, it seems that the Council has been replaced by a bunch of independent nobles, doing as they please. The resulting regime look like a cross between aristocracy and anarchy and isn't quite pleasant to look at. Trying to create some order, he grap the first person passing by. It's Al'Akif.*

-Hey! You need food? Well, know what? I got it! I got a f***ckin' granary full of f*****ng food. Why didn't you ask? I'm a f**** farmer!

*He then jump on a crate and start shouting*

GUYS!  We need to focus! We're just doing stuff in corners, nobody know what to do, it's just a BIG F****ING MESS!

So I suggest we each get a responsabilities and care for that part of the village. Ochita shall be the Councilman for Crafts, Ronald shall command our army, Al'Akif can rules the Forestry Service, or trade, I would take responsabilites for food and agriculture, and  Oleb can act as an head-of-state.

Each Councilman would be allocated a quota of men under his orders, the remaining one working for the harvest or other large-scale project (temple, stockade).

What do you think?

P.S. Yes, I'm trying to send us toward a Medieval setting in which we all own serfs. :p

Al'Akif agrees on the handing out of important sounding titles-and the promise that once established, no noble may cross one another in his field.

Al'Akif disagrees on allocating men out like cattle. Truly, the full manpower of the village should be available to everyone.
