Tribes 2 (Server:OFFLINE)
« on: September 29, 2010, 12:25:21 pm »

Hey everybody.

Me(I'm Reusable-Box on Steam), Hugehead, and RedAlertFan have been playing a bunch of Tribes 2 lately, and we've been hoping to get some more players to join us, so where else to turn but to the Forums?

We're usually in the Steam Dwarf Fortress Community group chat.

Tribes 2, for those of you who don't know, is a multiplayer First (or third) person shooter with a lot of depth. There are a ton of different weapons to use, and it has support for up to 32 v 32 matches.

Best of all, Tribes 2 is free! Just head over here download the unpatched game, then download the TribesNext patch.

Also of note, the minimum system requirements are damn low, so that shouldn't be an issue.

So, we'd love for you guys to join us. (If there is a lot of demand, someone else will need to host. I've been hosting, but don't have the greatest ISP in the world, and there'll probably be massive lag at around 12 people.)

I know it's unrealistic, but I can't help but imagine little bearded babies for dwarves. In my mind, they come out of the womb fully bearded. That's how the mother carries them around, too, she just drags them around by the beard or ties it to her belt. When the father's on duty, he just ties their beards together and the baby just kind of hangs there, swinging to and fro with Urist McDaddy's movements.

Imagine an FPS that is great. Now imagine that game making love with the best game mechanics of Call of Duty.

That offspring, if it bathed in Mt. Olympus, and was blessed by the gaming gods, would be Tribes 2.

Shame that I only have the most recent one. It's still awesome though and handles very well.

Rabbit is fun with 16 bots. Like a herd of bulls with jetpacks and grenade launchers trying to murder you.

Tribes 1 and 2 are both great games though not really as similar as you might expect.  2 is more more deliberately paced and teamwork oriented with several more vehicles than the original, many of which require more than one person to operate fully.  There are also more types of deployables...  I think there's a working cloaking pack too.

I remember when the requirements were considered too high.

Your words intrigue me. I used to play Tribes 1 a fair bit, but I utterly and completely blow at the actual FPS part; I lack twitch at the best of times, and adding in a Z dimension and 100 mph skating just ruins what I do have. But! Tribes had a helluva' mod presence, from what I remember. The ones that added junkloads of varying deployables and vehicles let me meaningfully contribute to the team, either by trapping the hell out of the home base (and the enemy's, if I was feeling frisky) or playing gopher/artillery with a big machine, stuff along those lines.

Does T2 have similar expansions? How genuinely useful is the fellow running around with a repair gun and no aimbot?

Is there a way to get in on this without having Steam? Last time I tried getting it to function didn't work well and I'd rather not try again :-\

Tribes 2 is freeware.  It's got nothing to do with Steam.

As for mods... For some reason I never really played it much with mods.  At least I don't remember.

I remember playing this, it was awesome. One of the mods was 'construction mod' which was pretty neat, but there was a spin-off called 'combat construction' where you could build a base and then attack each other.

I don't remember being good at this game, but it was rather awesome =) if you guys are actually going to play I might join in, I think I still have it installed here somewhere...
