Circus Maximus: Making the HFS more Fun. [SPOILERS] [Version 0.01]
« on: September 27, 2010, 10:11:46 pm »

Hell is... remarkably boring.  A bunch of demons spawn.  If you slay them, you've got a giant pit full of slade useful for garbage disposal and, if you
don't mind an irrigation project, farming.
This mod aims to change that.
It's presently a proof-of-concept that grants two fixed demon types (to increase the chance you encounter something Fun), a new vermin type (weaves souls into webs, and has a bite that makes it more Fun than any demon could hope to be), and wandering souls for your hunters to harvest, that turn into gems, alcohol, and metal (depending on soul type) upon death.

This mod is designed to be as minimalistic as possible; theoretically, it should work with any mod without conflicts, and depends only on the contents of vanilla DF.

Future plans to expand include:
More demon types, so you can't just conquer Hell by getting lucky.  [Ideas would be appreciated; I'm already planning on bringing back the Tentacle Demons]
More fauna -- an entire infernal ecosystem, to ensure Hell is never truly silent.
Flora?  Geology?  If I can get Hell to do it, I will.

DL'd.

AAH. USE THE ENTER KEY.

EDIT: It's [UNIQUE_DEMON], not [DEMON_UNIQUE].

Although unique_demon and demon aren't parsed by the game correctly if they are in the creature files

Ah, thanks for the correction about [UNIQUE_DEMON].
Also, if "USE THE ENTER KEY" translates into "there are no line breaks in your raw files," that's actually an oddity of files created in Linux and later read by Windows.  Linux uses wacky line breaks, and Windows cannot grasp their true form.  I'll see what I can do about making my RAW files more Windows-readable.

Specifically, Linux only uses \n, and Windows expects \r\n.  it only really messes stuff up if you open it in Notepad, anything else should recognise it for what it is.

Alternatively, use a Linux text editor that allows you to save stuff in Windows mode.
