i'd definitely take it, if just to tell everyone in either Hell or the World that I lived through a year of Dwarf Fortress.

Souls in Hell: You spent a year in a Dwarf Fort!?
You : Yea, so?
Souls in Hell: *bows* You shall now be our king of suffering and madness!

I could make it... I have a panic room with plenty of food and drink, sealable from within.

OH WAIT, you said HUMAN diplomat. I would need water access...
Never mind, I couldn't make it.

Just because you can drink water doesn't mean your liver shrivelled up and died.

Of course not, but I'd still need water to dilute the booze, and thus allow it to serve a purpose in hydration.
According to forum lore, dwarven drinks are ~70-90% alcohol.
For comparison, the strongest human spirits are ~40% alcohol, and more typical brews range from 5-25%.

You haven't had yerself some good old corn likker!

Seriously. You can practically watch it evaporate out of your glass.

That is a wasteful idea that recklessly endangers life. I applaud your genius!
There are as many ways to play the game as there are socks on a battlefield.

That's because it's practically 100% pure 200-proof corn alcohol.

Or:

Bay12Forums: You survived in a fort?!?
Me: Yeah
Bay12Forums: Not a real fort, you didn't die from magma

Best response: I didn't, but everything else did. During the first month.

How about a 55% beer? http://www.torontosun.com/news/canada/2010/07/22/14794821.html
Also, Portuguese firewater is traditionally 50-80%. It's quite nice. I think dwarves would like it.

Dwarven blood types are not A, B, AB, O but Ale, Wine, Beer, Rum, Whisky and so forth.
It's not an embark so much as seven dwarves having a simultaneous strange mood and going off to build an artifact fortress that menaces with spikes of awesome and hanging rings of death.

I'd die of thirst within a few weeks, due to what I thought to be a freshwater pool being...obviously.

I'm actually quite nice IRL, but you people have to pay the price for that.

Now stop being distracted by the rudeness, quit your accusations of trollery, and start arguing like real men!

I'll leave THAT to your imagination.

No, seriously. My fort just died because it ran out of drinkables...the newly-arrived migrants kinda used up my booze supply faster than I thought they could, but I thought "hey, no problem, there's a pond just right over there". Turns out the pond wasn't suited for drinking.

My most recent fortress is automotive. Their are dozens of traps, 3 squads of military. Their baracks are currently located at the entrance of the base.

There is 3 water falls, a stone guardian, a zoo, enough food and drink to last years, and happiness is really high for all of my dwarfs.

Ya i think i could manage leaving in my fortress for a year unpaused.

I was thinking more along the lines of this legendary champion, all clad in dented and dinged up steel plate, his blood-drenched axe slung over his back, a notch in the handle for every enemy that saw the swing of that blade as the last sight they ever saw, a battered shield strapped over his arm... and a fluffy, pink stuffed hippo hidden discretely in his breastplate.
