I think the year would pass quite amiably for me...  I would likely spend it munching on masterwork syrup roasts while admiring the beautiful engravings, statues, and waterfalls.

i'd definitely take it, if just to tell everyone in either Hell or the World that I lived through a year of Dwarf Fortress.

I'd give it a go. The defenses on the New Gate aren't finished but they're operational at least. And there's enough human sized military gear in the stockpiles from that FB attack on the caravan that I'd be armoured and weaponed up should the worst occur.

Bah, Human sized gear. I'm Dwarven sized!

Also, yeah, how mature is this fort we're in? If it's current, I'd be stranded, because I'm too busy modding to have a fort.

There's a good chance I'd die to one of the many flood levers, simply because they're so accessible if a tantrum occured. Plus, unless they're pulled in exactly the right order, the main fort floods along with the entrance.

Well, if i can avoid traps, i would. I would just spend my time pulling levers and hauling food. Also because its on a island i dont have to worry about sieges.

Now if a stupid miner wants to open a tunnel to a sealed chasm with a Flame throwing Finch (forgotten beast), i would wrestle him to death. Even if he has an adamantine pick.

Also, the dwarf made entirely out of blood is supposed to be Armok?

I'd live in my draconian fortress, because draconians are only interested in devouring elves for supper.
Maybe goblins.
Maybe.

I could make it... I have a panic room with plenty of food and drink, sealable from within.

OH WAIT, you said HUMAN diplomat. I would need water access...
Never mind, I couldn't make it.

My current fort is a well-maintained city on an island. Everyone is happy and no one is attacking. That would be easy to take.

This idea sounds a lot like the perspective most LPers take.

Best summary of Dwarf Fortress:
I'm fairly certain every path in the game leads to some sort of massive execution.

Is it possible to tell one's dorfs who you really are and what you do?

Never used Dwarf Therapist, mods or tilesets in all the years I've been playing.
I think Toady's confusing interface better simulates the experience of a bunch of disorganised drunken dwarves running a fort.

I'd grab food and drink and lock myself in a very small room.  That way I'd be safe from the vile forces of darkness that inevitably destroy my fortresses since I have no concept of military.

Just because you can drink water doesn't mean your liver shrivelled up and died.

Apparently having a redundant creature entry causes the game to say, "Oh, look, it's crazy world now. Nothing makes sense! Alligators live in houses!"

It would be an awesome year for me.

One one hand, I'd be able to pick from any of the unoccupied, luxurious rooms with great views scattered all over my fort and wear equipment looted from the hundreds of slain enemies. At my fort's current state, I have four wells that are always guarded by soldiers to prevent giant olms from eating my peasants, and about 10k units of prepared food, so even if I run out of alcohol my fort will last the year.

I'd be able to admire all the beautiful decorated bags and ropes scattered throughout my fort, which also help keep my dwarves sane in conjunction with my legendary dining rooms. I could actually view the engravings that record the fifty-year long defense my dwarves put up against the foes who besieged them endlessly from outside.

I'd be able to actually walk around the palace I built for my mayor and admire the high arches and stained glass windows that speckle my own architecture, as well as traverse my majestic underground halls and stand in the throne room sanctified for the use of generations of ducal lords.

From the highest point of the great tower I could view all of the land controlled by the fort I created.

However, my latest fort exists in a mod partially of my own creation, which causes more then ten races to besiege me relentlessly, including fireball-throwing goblins, immense giants, and the invincible demon spiders. My military was decimated in the last attack, and I left the drawbridge down...

This is the fort, btw:
