Hell or Dwarf Fortress?
« on: September 27, 2010, 06:18:36 am »

During your daily business you are struck down by a heavy goods vehicle.

Instead of waking up in your preferred afterlife, you immediately appear in a room with a Dwarf made entirely of blood.

He offers you the following: You must spend a whole year in your current Dwarf Fortress with however many Dwarves as a human diplomat, if you survive the year and are not killed you will return to our world, if you don't. You're dead anyway.

Do you think that any reasonable or sane person could survive that amount of time with a group of creatures who are undoubtedly unhinged, insane and very unconventional?

I could probably pull it off. Now, whether I'm sane or not, that... that is the real question.

My current dwarfs spend their entire existence partying and boozing, with the exception of the 30-man mining team.  I could cope with that.

I imagine that the option to drink alcohol every day would probably allow you to ignore most of the horrible things going on around you, or just make all that danger so much more... available.

Anyone fancy eating Dwarven Syrup Roasts every day?

I run an extremely conservative fortress. Bedrooms for every dorf, enough food/booze to fill an entire mountain, millions of dbs worth of trade goods on hand pretty much at all times, defenses up early, etc, etc.

So, yeah, I think I could pull it off.

Depends on whether the dwarves can run the fort by themselves.

Who is running the fortress while we are in it?

You accidentally left it unpaused.

I could probably pull it off, especially in my current fort.  Just slouch into my food stockpile and get wasted on sunshine for the year.  The brewer is set to repeat, and dude's got more nickel barrels than he knows what to do with.  I've got enough ≡Unicorn Meat Roasts≡ to last, and I'd be too trashed to care about the other, less palatable ingredients.

Where in my fort's development am I?

At best, I'm safe because I'm walled off or there isn't anything dangerous coming yet.

At worst, I'm outside with a bunch of dwarves doing nothing.

It's not an embark so much as seven dwarves having a simultaneous strange mood and going off to build an artifact fortress that menaces with spikes of awesome and hanging rings of death.

Well my latest fort is almost automated, so I guess I'd survive a year, although the miserable legendary+5 axe lord would probably say otherwise.

All his friends died, so I imagine he'll go berserk any second now. It will not be pretty.

Dump his axe and kick him out of the military.

I just don't have the heart to do that.

He's used that axe to kill over 40 goblins and about the same number of elves. He deserves to have his joy from slaughter.

I would accept the offer.

I am almost certain I would be killed, but it would be one hell of a year.

Am I at least allowed to lock myself in the food stockpile? Wait...diplomat...I don't need food...ok, the panic room?
