What happens if a black hole enters a black hole?
« on: September 26, 2010, 04:26:00 am »

So, they both have massive gravitation forces. Upon the inevitable chance that two do begin to gravitate towards each other...

They collide. What happens next?

I would say the larger absorbs the smaller.

=============================

Q2;
Same scenario, but with worm holes? Two massive worm holes appear next to each other, and one sucks the other in.
What happens next?

They both move toward the barycenter of the system (center of gravity of multiple objects). There they absorb each other into a larger one.

Well, blackholes, means the blackholes will get larger, since it's just one massive amount of atoms in a tiny space bumping into another. This answer is pretty simplistic though, since the patterns that pop up from this are complicated, but that's just trajectory.

As for wormholes, your guess is as good as mine, but both are holes in the space-time fabric, so my guess would be that the wormhole gets "longer"

Do wormholes even exist?

I don't know if I should be scared that there's fuck up's in the space/time fabric or think it's awesome.

Wormhole entering a wormhole? I think that it'd basically be like putting two tubes together. The two spots where they meet disappear, and the other two spots make a new wormhole. That is assuming that these things even exist. Although knowing the way that science tries to kills us all, putting two wormholes would probably cause the universe to implode or something stupid like that.

well, think about a wormhole in 1 fewer dimension, like this image. Think about adding another wormhole to that picture, then the mouths on the same side merge together (but not on the other). You would have a split. Now, I haven't the slightest clue what that would imply, or which exit leads where, but that's how I imagine it would look.

Two black holes would just result in a bigger black hole.

I think two wormholes colliding would result in a Klein Bottle.

Guess no more! http://news.cnet.com/Supercomputer-simulates-black-hole-collision/2100-11397_3-6062605.html
And three: http://www.abc.net.au/science/articles/2008/04/14/2216389.htm
Essentially, multiple black holes make a bigger black hole and a crapton of gravitational waves.

They'd have to get each other's insurance information.  The one at fault would try to trick the other one into moving the cars off the road so it's no longer obvious he's at fault.
