Making volcanoes bigger?

Is there a way to make volcanoes bigger? I don't mean taller, though I wouldn't mind that. I mean making these little pipes into veritable vertical lakes of magma/lava. I want a volcano big enough to build a small city over.

Build a wall around the volcano where you want the boundaries of your expanded volcano to be, then breach the volcano. Pump out magma for greater haste.
