I dunno, I preferred my Bioshock spoiler-stoppy thing.

ADAM (Obvious)
Rapture (Hell)
The only thing I can't figure is if Splicers or Big Daddies fit better. Splicers are everywhere and attack on sight, but they're so easy to kill. Big Daddies are giant hulking deathsuits who happen to also be very, very passive.

I always thought they were called clowns because of how they come in endless numbers like a clown car at the circus.

So would 10-15 traps be sufficient to stop the clown invasion?  Trying to keep my thread on topic...

[NOTE:  These are upright spike traps linked to a lever we are referring to, so the [TRAPAVOID] tag would not apply AFAIK]

That's what cages and minecart shotguns are for!  We don't need to control them.  We just need to aim them.

well that seems surprisingly easy....Unless some flaming clowns, or snow clowns are immune to spikes...

NOTHING is immune to spikes, Not even dwarfds
Still, have a lever controlled floor hatch that they would have to go up through.
If its closed NOTHING can get through.

I think I will leave the cotton candy field about 20 traps of 10x sugar spikes (sugar being the smelted form of cotton candy strands.  cotton candy is from now on only the unprocessed, or strand form.) so I doubt anything would get through that...

I don't remember if anyone has started on such a mod or not, but in case it hasn't been done (or finished) yet, someone has to make a Circus mod based on the "spoilers" for HFS.

Wait... adamantine is now "cotton candy"?
I knew it was going too far but despite all my efforts everyone just kept plodding onward to utter destruction. Look, look upon what terror we have wrought!

It would, but it's not very dwarfy.

Blasphemy!
Dwarfs are meant to kill the clowns,by fair means or foul
So,Will the steel work instead of cotton candy?
I really wanna explore the circus.
I think the meaning there is that it is not very dwarfy to just pull a lever. Why not make the six pump circle repeater to trigger your spikes? I'm sure you could set up a couple of water reactors and pumps while you were digging down and crafting the spears and then it wouldn't take any longer to connect them to a pressure plate instead of the lever. The only actual additions to time would be placing the wall that closes off the plate and having the dwarves dump buckets of water onto that square... and then actually running over to (Quaid,) start the reactor.

Well, corpses are remarkably non-violent.
If you're paid attention to the DFTalk entries you'll know that's not necessarily going to be the case forever~

But cotton candy is just so much more dwarfy... :P
Come on, if we're going to go with circus-theme replacement words for everything Dwarves have got to be carnies, or at least children. Well, half of them used to be bearded ladies but the metaphor suffers yet another breakdown because you only have like one of those in a freakshow instead of around one hundred.

Yeah, the circus has been around longer than I can shake a stick at, and besides, clowns are Fun! Therefore, it fits!
It's only been around about a year. The terms caught on remarkably fast after their earliest use and everyone just assumed we'd always called these things clown-malarky. You can piece it together in just a few minutes with the search feature.

@ LilGunmanx

The reason
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
are referred to as clowns stems from
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
being a 'clown car', due to the way that tons of 'clowns' spawn from the 'clown car' despite the fact that it's relatively small, like clowns getting out of a clown car.
It isn't really small though. They spew forth from a god forsaken portal leading either to some unknown realm or the fiery core or the Earth within which no tunnel can support itself and no digging instrument can hope to endure.

I always thought they were called clowns because of how they come in endless numbers like a clown car at the circus.
They're not endless though. Right now it's just the one big push and then nothing. Well, some of them wander in from the edge just like deer or crundles but they will never again act like an invading army.

well that seems surprisingly easy....Unless some flaming clowns, or snow clowns are immune to spikes...

You should probably include some freaking explanation there. If that sort of thing is locked or otherwise not something a dwarf can walk through then any invaders will not know they can walk through it. If you lock it after they've already planned their way past it they will walk right up to it and then realize their path has been interrupted and then being right there they will beat up and doors or things provided they are building destroyers, or in the case of any super-hot creatures they'd melt anything meltable just by being near it.

While none of that is what you are talking about here you should be able to see how people could think that this was what you meant.
Instead what you're talking about is how the hatch is on the tile above them and they would have to enter that tile to smash it apart or transfer enough heat to melt it. Seeing as it is locked they are stuck below it where they technically cannot reach it and can't conduct much heat to it.

I believe Shoku said that.  but the pathing issues would prevent them from going through my corridor.  My plan would be ~15 spikes, then my barracks of cottoncandy wielding patrons (happy with the improved parallel? ;D)

But I said it in such a bothersome way with tons of words all over the place.

And no, cotton candy will always, ALWAYS be pink to me.
