Dwarfs into Bondage?

I built a bunch of three by three rooms with chains in them and left them as free rooms. Now my dwarfs are hanging out in them. I don't see the attraction.

Dwarves admire high quality stuff.  People have noticed parties being thrown in their prisons because of how awesome the chains are.

So my crundles are staying intact unless they're newly spawned... until they are exposed to anything that isn't at room temperature.  This mostly seems to mean blood, specifically, their own.  Then they go poof very quickly.
