Community All-In Game (0.31.14 via dfterm2 0.8)
« on: September 25, 2010, 01:33:15 am »

Hey guys,

Just booted up a dfterm2 server running DF 0.31.14. At the moment Gau is giving a shot, so if anyone wants to have a look or whatever you'll need to telnet to the following:
Address: pegasus.temporum.net
Port: 9000
Alternatively, you can try http://pegasus.temporum.net:9001 (Though make sure to read the MOTD)

A note: It is running in TEXT mode, so it may look a bit ugly to some, but it's still DF!
Example:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

For those of you unfamiliar with how you'd go about doing this, you'd first need to grab a telnet client. I'm going to use PuTTY as my example.

First, you'll need to download it. You'll need to go here to download it.

Now from there after downloading, there's no install. It will run from where ever you put it.

So, open up Putty and you'll be presented with a screen like this:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Now, a few things will need to be changed. First, where it says 'Connection type' make sure 'Telnet' is chosen.
Then, in the Host Name area, put: pegasus.temporum.net
Last thing on this page, change the port to: 9000
So it should end up looking like this:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Next, choose the 'Window' option on the left hand side. Now with the way the server is setup, the ideal window size is this: Columns = 116, Rows = 39
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Next, choose Translation on the left hand side. Where there is the dropdown menu for 'Received data set assumed...', make sure you choose UTF-8
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Now at this stage I'd suggest going back to the 'Session' window and, in the saved sessions box, type in a name for the connection then press 'Save'. This should create a profile you can load up whenever you launch putty.

After that, click 'Connect' and you're away!

The server will then ask you for a username & password. Enter whatever you like in here, and from then on that will be your username and password on it.

For help with the actual dfterm2 either message me, or check out the handy guide created by its awesome creator Adeon in this thread: http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=50643.0

Restarted with a web interface. Try http://pegasus.temporum.net:9001
(And remember to read the MOTD)

didn't work for me. I entered all the information (double checked) and it just popped up a screen, waited one second, and then closed it with the windows error sound.

I couldn't connect either. I ran a portscan on for the sake of troubleshooting. No malice intended.

The dfterm2 server is probably down. Atleast port 23 worked fine (It's not the DF port, btw), but 9000 or 9001 won't work.

Sorry about that. Must have crashed for some reason.

Just restarted it and gave it a keep-alive script as well.

That must have done it. Works like a dream.

Good stuff Tagert. It would be awesome if you could post times you'd be playing so we can watch.

So, am I getting this correctly? Live streamed Dwarf Fortress? That is AWESOME.

Yeah. Sort of. :)

Also, Tuxman, it's really for anyone else to jump on and play. Consider it like a succession game.

Also, I'd like to apologise to Duriel. I was trying to shut down the other instances and I accidentally closed yours.

Anyway, I've made a change to stop that happening again.

Just to add a bit, I've created a new profile so two games can be run at once. They use separate working directories so they'll be on different saves. Feel free to just jump on and start a game or continue the game already running. :)

They're both running on the largest maps, sites, etc...

If it crashes often, read this post. I wrote a little guide about enabling core dumps on Linux that can be sent to me so I can debug them. Crashing is about the worst bug I can have, so I'll want to fix them ASAP.

I can't use Shift+Enter on the military screen. Is that a problem with my terminal emulator?

I worked around it by adding an keybinding for alt-enter instead of shift-enter.
