Possessed by unknown forces
« on: September 24, 2010, 11:03:11 pm »

I've run into a very weird strange mood.

I recently slaughtered two goblin ambushes. After the ambushes I changed the alert back to "train" which is a 2 months on, one month off for each squad. One of my squad leaders, a High Master Thresher was possessed by unknown forces.

Instead of going to grab a workshop he goes outside to the location of the last goblin killed and, well, he's chilling. I have every workshop except quern/millstone, bowyer, siege, ashery, dyer, soap maker; I never had a strange mood need any of these.

The strange thing is that he's not hanging out in my meeting area, which is what happens when I don't have the right workshop.

What could be going on?

You're playing Dwarf Fortress.  There isn't much of a distinction.

I have had a strange-mood-dwarf claim a bowyer's shop before...

What are his civilian skills?

If his highest is a metalsmithing skill or glassmaking and you have magma forges/glass furnaces, he wants a non-magma version.

If Bowyer is his highest skill, he wants a Bowyer's workshop.

High Master Thresher. He's also a dabbling Stone Crafter and a lot of fighting skills. Threshers work out of Farmer's workshops; I have those, kitchens, stills, etc.

What's up with him hanging out by the last kill, instead of the meeting area?

Also,

Moody dwarves will not claim workshops whose building materials have been forbidden. This is usually the result of mass-forbidding every piece of low-value rock in an attempt to ensure valuable artifacts. You can check whether a workshop's materials are forbidden with the items command: the building materials are at the top of the list and will be purple if forbidden, cyan if not.

Soldiers tend to go to the spot of their last order, regardless how old it is. I have marksmen who, after over a year, still venture to the last station position every now and then. The current military order system is something ... strange, to be polite. ;)
