Blasting a hole into the planet's core isn't easily repaired, but you can at least walk around the hole, unlike heavy global radiation exposure which can't be avoided.

Start construction for a new genetics facility. In orbit if we can manage it. the bearpeople are going to be exterminated with a little more finesse than a BFG.
