Having only one monitor, wide as it may be, I have DF with double size characters, Dwarf Therapist, and Firefox for the wiki/forums open using I alt-tab to navigate between them. It seems I need two more monitors.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Nothing special. Minimum "classic" DF window size, laptop monitor, no utilities running (if I did they'd be minimized unless I was using them; I suppose I'd get Therapist when my fort gets bigger since Dwarf Manager or Dwarf Foreman probably aren't going to be updated). Firefox is always either in the background or minimized so I have something to do in between telling the dwarves what to do.

regardless, the slime shooter will be completed, come hell or high water, which are both entirely plausible setbacks at this point.

Windows lies.

As for the framerate; I blanked out the *PAUSED* ;D

Although, I was hitting 3000fps on the arena mode, uncapped and unpaused. Shit was fucking insane. 7 pages of combat shot past in half a second.

I am so very unimaginative, all of my working and living layers are simply huge 60x60 open rooms with the central staircase in the middle.  3 layers for stockpiles and workshops and one for sleeping eating and hanging out.  I find that the lack of walls makes for fairly easy pathfinding (at least it seems to work well).  The only places in my forts that deviate from this super simplistic setup are the farms (usually a series of 5x5 rooms with some kind of irrigation system), my main entrance (a very specific configuration of long trapped hallways, trade depot, and vision blockers to protect the chained guard animals from archers), and my mines, which consist of a pattern of 3 wide exploratory corridors and mined out veins and clusters (the clusters occasionally end up as backup stockpile areas.)
