There is a side effect -- slade in old saves will be diggable.
THIS IS AWESOME

It's probably made from baby bone, with a handle of baby leather. Probably uses the leg bones wound together for the handle, the pelvis for the handle/pick joint, and the pick is the spine.

But that's all in theory, of course. Not like I've made a pick out of my own 5 month old baby before.

Well, there's the caveat that it will probably be very bugged, beware.

The bugs are just a new type of demon.

Do you always look at it in ASCII?

You get used to it, I don't even see the ASCII.  All I see is blacksmith, miner, goblin.

I know that. Slade is unuseable because of something else in its code.
It's just I genned a world in which every dwarf has a preference for slade or adamantine.
EVERY DWARF.

You realize that, if they have a mood, they will probably use slade.
So. . .
STRANGE MOOD TIME!

Actually, I have used slade at least to make a stone short sword (granted, it was bugged so it came out wooden) in an old version. Odds are you can make other things out of it as well. Possibly.

Rockfall trap with slade.
That's an instant death trap. Crushed under tons of stone.

You could load a marble into a slade rockfall trap and it would probably still be enough to kill a giant, assuming it's dropped from around 10m up.

This Farnsworth quote springs to mind

"You see, Vergon 6 hell was once filled with a super-dense substance known as dark matter slade, each pound of which weighs over ten thousand pounds."
