Journal of Zaneg Melbilitomem:

28th of Galena:

Today was... odd.

First, some human merchants arrived. As we were rebuilding the trade depot, which USEC tore down when the elves arrived, some kobolds showed up. As the military was being assembled, the human delegate decided that it would be a good idea to actually attack, and took off a kobold's leg. The kobolds then decided that it would be a good time to leave, and did so.

Next, some goblins showed up, and attacked the merchants on the other side of the fortress. Once the military got there, the goblins had buggered off.

Of course, the kobolds came back, and shot a couple arrows at me, before deciding to bugger off as well. And apparently the goblins and kobolds, somehow having decided that we are too strong for them, are now stealing anything they can get their hands on. Of course, since they actually can't get into the fortress, this means any of the random crap that is left lying around. Which is a lot.

Anyways, in all this confusion, Grendal apparently stopped the war going on between us and the humans. Frankly, I didn't even know about this war. Of course, with this 'war' over, we traded with the human merchants.

Oh look, here goes Satori, who thankfully has put on some frozen forgotten beast extract for the sake of dwarfish decency. Idiot.

10th of Sandstone:

Vulcan had a mood today. Made an adamantine table, worth 720000, named Longmoths. It's encircled with bands of adamantine, but not much else. At least USEC has put it with the dining hall, where everybody can enjoy it, instead of stealing it for herself. Now, if we could only get the vomit off of it...

18th of Timber:

USEC came out of her rooms, today, looking terrible. Vomit caked the front of her shirt. With blood-shot eyes, she looked at everyone, before declaring that she couldn't handle the stress, and that she was resigning her job as overseer. And, as I quote: "If any of you think you think about taking my rooms or my tomb, I got a *bronze short-sword* with your name on it." Afterwards, she stumbled back into her rooms, vomiting profusely.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
OCC: Yah, I'm quiting early. Why? Because the only thing that is left to do on the tombs is to put stone statues in each of the four corners. And House is on break. Having my turn come up for three different succession games on the same day helped too. As such, I'll be passing the save onto the next person. There's some dwarven merchants outside of the fortress, thought it would be a good idea if the next overseer did what s/he wanted to do to them.

I didn't really do much this turn. Every dwarf has a tomb, and they really enjoy all of their gold furniture that I gave them, but you should dig out some more gold, we ran out of it.

Anyways, the save is here, and I'm off to my next succession game. Wish me luck.

I'll go read your updates in a second.

Any questions and or concerns can be now directed at me. XP

Was my turn. Moonlit_Knight will be starting Sunday or Monday, unless Meto decides to go before Moonlight, like s/he wanted.

Sorry for the lack of correspondence, I was away on business for a week. Is it still my turn(as per moonlit's wishes) or is he/she able to take the save right now? Well, at least for good measure I'll be downloading the save now; if Moonlit returns before I post my first status report he/she can have the spot.

PS: I'm male, so I can be addressed by 'he' :)

Seeing as the Moonlit_Knight should have said something by now, go ahead and do your turn.

A suggestion would be to confine all the dwarfs to a burrow when letting the merchants in. Letting them wander around outside is not a good idea, with the state of which our military is in. Also, when House is finished his break, can you let him create more statues to finish the tombs?

Looks like House got dwarfed into a mason. Hmpf. House was supposed to be a very cynical doctor. But this will have to do. Also, USEC_OFFICER ended his turn in autumn. Does this mean I have this year's winter AND the whole next year for my turn?

I'm trying to get a bearing of what goes where and which workshops do what. For now I'm letting the fortress run. I've reassigned the CMD to House.

Why does a fort of 26 dwarves need 200 tiles of farming space? There isn't enough labour to maintain even 30! I'm removing some plots and reviewing the state of the farming industry.

I'm also shutting down all production of pigtails. As far as I can see there is no urgent need for cloth and I am quite assured that we don't have a tailor skilled enough to produce export worthy items. Erush Uzolesmul the Crafter can practice with imports for now.

I have expected thousands of tiles of vomit, but the save file contains none. Has someone cleaned the entire map while I was away from the forums? If somebody did, kudos for him, because I really didn't relish the prospect of wiping the whole map.

Journal Entry 28th of Timber, year 1059

The hand of the journal has been transferred to Gregory House, Chief Medical Dwarf and Foremost Mason of the colony of The Fatal Ice. USEC Officer has stepped down from the directorate for reasons undisclosed, and the remainder of his term is now my responsibility.

On the last few days of his term, USEC and I have been reviewing each section of the fortress, deciding what need doing and what was okay as it stood. It's been many years since the disasterous directorate of Satori, but the damages done at that time can still be seen. The fortress is a jumble of half-finished and abandoned projects of our ambitious predecessors, but fortunately a select few have been completed and are serving their purpose. The southern cemetery complex, which is a brainchild of USEC and was my responsibility as Foremost Mason, is nearing completion. I am very excited of this, but for right now that work of art will have to wait. The fortress is quiet healthy for now, but still, if I don't get my bearings in place in time the colony will crumble again. I am determined not to repeat Satori's failure.

The trade caravan is arriving. I've designated all avaiable goods to the depot for the moment. I don't know what's in them and I don't have time to figure out. Perhaps the main advantage I have over other directors is that I have access to two trading sessions. I have complete control over the imports and exports of two consecutive years.

I will return to this journal once the trading is over.

I'd like to finally join a succession fort. Been lurking for a while and this just seems like too much fun. Slot available? Also, if there's anything I need to know, can anyone fill me in?
