The Ironhand graphic pack for 31.16 should work for 31.12, right?

Also:

WHY THE HELL IS THERE SO MUCH VOMIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It should, but might not.
And the vomit is because an FB got in somehow during the opening of hell.

It's probably made from baby bone, with a handle of baby leather. Probably uses the leg bones wound together for the handle, the pelvis for the handle/pick joint, and the pick is the spine.

But that's all in theory, of course. Not like I've made a pick out of my own 5 month old baby before.

Gah, real life caught up with me. I got dragged away and was unable to use my computer for ages. Sorry!

USEC_OFFICER, if you send me your E-mail I'll send you a copy of the save. You'll find it far more comprehensible.

You can still do your turn, if you want to. I'm not going to have much time in the next couple of days.

As are we all.

It's good to know the fortress will be in more or less workable condition when it reaches my turn :)

http://dffd.wimbli.com/file.php?id=3284

Managed to binge my way to early winter. Won't be able to do much more for a few days, so I've uploaded it as is. Long story short: damage-control to the max. Everybody now has defined jobs, there is tons of food, and a massive farm in operation (note: we have tons of pig tail seeds, plant 'em, we need thread). Forgotten Beasts crawled up the shaft to the old farm shortly after I built the new one, so I walled it off.

The new farm is controlled via floodgates. Unexpectedly, the FB's seem totally uninterested in gaining access to the fortress through them. Still, if you walled them off, I won't hold it against you.

I unsealed the adamantine vein, floored off the bottom, and reclaimed the rest. We have plenty of furnace operators (the labourers), so Vulcan might enjoy training with magnetite or other low-value ore till he hits legendary, then set him making stuff out of sweet, sweet adamantine, we have tons of it.

All the furniture is of Exceptional quality or better by now, except beds. There is one of most every workshop, with two kitchens and two querns. There are legendary masons and carpenters, so try only to use them in making things (raw adamantine furniture?).

Since there are no migrants on the horizon (or ever, and I mean EVER), the housing complexes are useless. I recommend training dwarves you can and giving them armour, not to mention finding a way to defeat either the FBs or the horde of invaders up on the surface.

A note on professions.

Labourers have stone detailing, hauling, furnace operating, butchery (I think) and just about every other skill that doesn’t have quality modifier productions.

All other profession names are pretty obvious. I recommend using DF Manager or a program like it to explore the full list before doing anything.

Any other questions, feel free to ask.

Well, time to get DFmanager Therapist then.

EDIT: Which version of DF therapist works with 31.12? After all, hasn't the memory hacking things been changed? (Sorry for all the questions.)

Therapist 6.2 works for DF versions ~.14, and 6.4 works for versions ~.16.

The DT is always backwards compatible.

Journal of Zaneg Melbilitomem:

20th of Obsidian:

Today, I watched the outpost liaison die. A group of goblins had ambushed him as he was approaching the Fatal Ice. Asasavuz refused to let down the gate to help him, claiming that the Fatal Ice had no room for outsiders. Apparently, she is the new Overseer for the Fatal Ice. She's ordered new rooms carved for herself and has even changed her name to USEC, for some strange reason. I suppose that she might be getting crazy. Taggan certainly is. He's claimed a craftsdwarf workshop, we all know what that means...

25th of Obsidian:

Taggan has finally started work on his project. Looks like he's using some raw adamantine, some claystone, turquoises, logs, nickel, rope reed cloth, camel leather, and rough yellow zircons. Whatever he is making, it is going to be worth a lot.

USEC has been 'recruiting' these last few days. A few dwarfs have been drafted into the military, and they all have been training like mad. A lot of crap may have been sprouting out of her mouth about honour and duty, but "full adamantine" has been coming out as well. As such, your's truly is stuck extracting strands. Fun.

1st of Granite:

Taggan is finished. He made some sort of raw adamantine amulet, worth around 660000 or something. It was studded with raw adamantine, decorated with pine and encircled with bands of claystone, rope reed fibre and yellow zircon. It was adorned with hanging rings of camel leather, and of course, menaces with spikes of claystone, turquoise, nickel and yellow zircon. Not much else to talk about, just more boring strand extracting today.

24th of Granite:

USEC has moved into her half-finished room. I got her old ones. Now she's talking about how we almost have enough adamantine wafers to construct a full suit of armour. Thank Armok, when she finally gets her armour, I can stop extracting all these strands.

15th of Slate:

Today, I watched some migrants die. I have no idea why the fools came to the Fatal Ice, and I never will. USEC and the rest of the military assembled, in an effort to save the migrants. When all the goblins appeared, they quietly stopped. One by one, the migrants were killed, slaughtered, all of them to the dwarf. One of them managed to evade the goblins for a long time, you could hear her pleas to lower the drawbridge as she ran, but nobody did anything to help. She was a brave dwarf, an example to us all. It took four goblin squads to chase her down and kill her. I think I might compose a poem to her.

In other news, it's clear that I'll be extracting strands till I die. USEC has ordered a full suit of adamantine for the entire military. She's been sprouting more of her shit about honour and duty, and sadly it looks like some of the other dwarfs are beginning to listen. I hope they all choke on it.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"There is no honour with out duty! Without duty we are nothing, just ignorant savages who fall one by one!" USSC bellowed. Nearby, Zaneg barely repressed a snort. A large group had gather arounded USEC, and despite all the calls of duty and honour, Zaneg doubted that would stop them if they knew what he really thought. He skirted around the crowd, eager to get to the booze, his last refuge from this hell-hole. As he entered the booze stockpile, he noticed that House was already there, clearly deep in thought. The door closed behind Zaneg far too loudly, and House looked up, startled. When he saw Zaneg, he walked over to him.

"So, Zaneg, err... What do you think of all this?" House asked.

"All of what?" replied Zaneg.

"You know, USEC and her... ideals."

Zaneg thought for a minute. House was currently the head of the military, though with USEC ambitions, he didn't think it would stay that way for all that long. Zaneg decided to take a chance.

"Personally, I think her digestive tract is working backwards."

House looked at Zaneg, the joke clearly going over his head.

"I mean she spews shit out of her mouth."

House, having finally gotten the joke, similed. "My thoughts exactly. Shit coming out of her mouth. I mean, will all her talk of duty and honour, she hasn't really been following it, right?"

Zaneg, eager to see what House had to say, nodded.

"Right. If she really followed all this duty and honour crap, she'll at least give us all proper rooms, right? I mean, not all the dwarves here have proper rooms. Hasn't USEC been talking about how the state should provide or something? And another thing, what about when those migrants arrived? Migrants! The first time in Armok knows how long! And what about USEC's precious military? Not even half armed! Hell, most of the men were raw recruits! We didn't stand a chance! And instead of stupidly calling the draft, why not get some basic training done? Why am I making furniture for her instead of training? Damn it, wasn't the military suppost to exsist to save dwarves? And another thing!"

House's roar suddenly stopped, as he took a quick look around, then whispered to Zaneg: "I'm a bit tired of drinking the same old booze. Just a bit tired."

Zaneg could barely hold back his laugh.

(A bit of feedback would be nice.)

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Journal of Zaneg Melbilitomem:

18th of Felsite:

Some elves came today. I was smelting some wafers at the time, for a change of pace. As I climbed up to get a look, I was surprised when the goblins actually ran from the elves. USEC, for all her talk of how the Fatal Ice actually opened the gate! I think she was as surprised as I was. Of course, USEC was leading this trade operation, and soon enough, we had to lock the merchants in, stealing all their goods.

Back to strand collecting I suppose.

27th of Felsite:

Today, I watched the Elven merchants die. USEC herself gave the order, and killed one of the elves herself. I would like to say that the elves put up a good fight against USEC and her cronies. However, that was not the case. USEC herself only managed to find and kill one of the merchants. Argebarger killed two of them. Ezum Tishisonul, one of USEC's greatest supporters, managed to kill three. I can still see the body of the elf merchant when I go down to smelt some wafers.

Looks like I am not the only one to think things are going crazy, Nil Zefonstukos had gone and claimed a craftdwarf's workshop. I believe that dying elves may be involved.

7th of Hematite:

Looks like I was wrong. Mingtuth Belal, or the Contingency of Fame only had a picture of dwarfs labouring on it. Worth only 60000, though, so not much cause for celebration.

8th of Malachite:

Today, I butchered a cat. USEC had ordered that all wandering stray cats should be killed, to cut down on the amount of vomit. With there only being one stray cat, I had the pleasure of killing it. It vomited before I did so, stupid thing. USEC is working on building a nice tomb for everybody, 'so that we will be remembered when we die'. Guess who has the biggest tomb?
