Notes from glowing engravings on a rough ice block wall.

I woke up in hospital this morning. Kosoth told me I was found unconscious outside the fort during the night with severe hypothermia. I don't know what happened, I simply blacked out. He, on the other hand, kept blaming it on the winter blues and gave me my morning beer. Now it actually tastes properly. How strange.
I wanted to resume working on the fort but Kosoth insisted I stayed in this madhouse along with the other invalids and sick, vomiting people. How I would love to strangle him soon.

1st Moonstone
To my annoyance, I am told someone has built a bowyer's workshop during the night. Whoever has built that is in for a world of pain once I can feel my damn frozen legs. We don't have the supplies to sustain a bow-making industry, you jerks! I'm also told Eshtan is holing up in that place, hauling items for something no one knows about. He has crossed the line for the last time. But we don't have a population large enough to start massacring our own people lest we start inbreeding. I'll have to think of some other punishment.

I've planned on retiring from this position at the end of winter. I'll have to decide on my successor sometime soon. But I have a few incomplete projects that need to be finished. For that purpose, I've put anyone with the will to break his back into the newly established STD, Special Team for Detail. Start working, morons.

2nd Moonstone
Word has reached me that Eshtan has started work on his "secret project". He's using a log of wood, a few gems, some cave spider silk cloth and one stone block. Whatever he's doing, he better make sure it's worth the effort of annoying me.

5th Moonstone
Kosoth gave me the green light to leave the hospital. Finally. I couldn't stand being next to all that vomit. To ensure the dining hall is finished, I've joined STD to help them finish it.
I've also decided to reward Vulcan with the buzzard liaison. Take good care of him. He'll be chained next to the black bear.

7th Moonstone
While I was working on smoothing all the nooks and crannies of the dining hall, Eshtan decided to smash through the wall of smelly, hairy dwarves and yelled at the top of his lungs "IT'S FINISHED!” after which he showed me his completed project. A Highwood crossbow.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
What. That's the best you could do? Only 10800 bucks? Incompetent fool.
"Why don't you just give me that thing so you can get back to work. Preferably in STD. Do that while I go turn up the heat in this place. Don't worry; I'll make sure no enemy will ever find this legendary crossbow. Ever."
The bowyer's workshop will be deconstructed.

11th Moonstone
Grendal must be rolling around in the vomit piles again. I can tell. She's unable to clean herself properly, that dwarfwoman. It seems a lot of people are. What is it with those pigs?

12th Moonstone
Merchants have left. They'd better not attract those goblins' attention.

Everything's smoothed out in the dining hall. Now if only they could create proper engravings.
I've designated a new mason's workshop to be built. We'll need the higher productivity if we are to finish this place in time.

13th Moonstone
Raise the bridge before those goblins penetrate our defenses!

18th Moonstone
Look, an ambush right in front of our gate! Sorry caravan, you're not leaving this place. I guess you'll have to join the other crazy merchants in this fort. Maybe you all can throw a party or something. Just be sure to clean up the mess afterwards.

1st Opal
Those goblins are getting on my nerves. Everyone's freaking out when they all head to haul stuff from the depot. Even worse, they all yell at me about it. If you're so bothered about the problem, why don't you go fix it yourselves, you drunken bastards. Leave me alone to my sanity, please.

9th Opal
Grendal's throwing up all over the place. Damnit Grendal!

13th Opal
This goblin problem has been taken to a whole new level. I have nearly half of the work-force outside, all hungry and drowsy, who are unable to enter the fortress because they're scared of a bunch of goblin hammermen on the other side of the moat. By Urist's beard, guys. Grow yourself a pair or two. Sigh, I guess I have to order the construction of a new passage.

25th Opal
The engravings are nearly finished! We can start hauling furniture now. Soon we'll have a legendary dining hall, unparallel to anything this world has ever seen!

1st Obsidian
Damnit Satori! You're fellow dwarven brethren are STARVING upstairs! You're the only one who seems capable carving a freaking staircase and when you're told to do it you believe the best course of action is to go to SLEEP?! Someone get a hammer and whack some sense into that dwarfwoman!

5th Obsidian
I'm speechless. The dwarves are absolute morons. They have THREE entrances down to the food which are safe from the goblins and they are still running around in circles, screaming at the top of their lungs while starving to death. I don't know what to do anymore.
If there were vultures living around here, there would be a million of them circling around these imbeciles like a tornado.
The good news is that we've finished engraving. Huzzah! Onto the bedroom area!

7th Obsidian
Still no progress on the morons upstairs. They should take example of the suicidal merchant and jump down the ledge.

9th Obsidian
Several dwarves are currently starving to death. They include Vulcan and Argembarger, among others. Idiots.

10th Obsidian
Finally! Someone with a bit of intelligence! Morul figured out how to move her hairy bum downstairs and has made it inside! Wait, scratch that. She went out again. Grr...

A temporary barracks has been established in the hall of ice and vomit. Now we just need our militia to start training.

11th Obsidian
Progress! Glorious progress! The morons have moved downstairs. AT THE BLADE OF AN AXE!

12th Obsidian
Looks like a zolar bear has decided to pick a fight with a few bored goblins.
And there it died. Guess who won the bet. This guy.

Spring is approaching, finally. We've gone from being a four-dwarven-remnant to a mental asylum with 29 inmates. Upon that, we've got a fully functioning safe underground farm for our beloved shrooms and other dwarven plants, a nearly finished dining hall and the start of some proper bedrooms.
Behold, The Frozen Egg!
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
A dining hall and arena combined! Food, booze and entertainment! All dwarves in the kingdom will flock around Fatal Ice!
The successor merely needs to create and haul furniture in there. And finish the bedrooms.
Speaking of succession, my term here at Fatal Ice has come to an end. I've put a note up in the Frozen Egg notifying the others that I'll be retiring. Vabok returned from the capital and I'll be locked up in some room or something trying to decipher the kitty language.

I think my dreams are haunted. That weird feeling keeps popping up every night and is getting stronger now. I really need to clear my mind and make peace with it. That's the only way I believe will exorcise whatever demon is trying to drive me insane.

There's been a... progression of sorts of my possession of Cog's body. I can't seem to get out of it. I've tried everything short of committing suicide. I guess there has been more to Cog's silence than I've thought. How odd his mind would end this way. But I've needed a body more than he has. He's done his duty to his dwarven brethren. A duty to me. A duty which will inevitably serve to the fall of the hideous Queen. Soon I will have my revenge. Soon we will be rid of her, her henchmen and her tyranny! This is the day when the fall of the dwarven regime will begin!

OOC: "The STD collides with The Wrestler!”
“The Wrestler is knocked over!"
I'll let you take a moment and interpret that.
Winter was much shorter than I had expected.

So what you're telling me is that my representative in this world is a drunken, belligerent, lazy idiot who forgets to eat?

I am proud to be a true, full-blooded Dwarf.

My dwarf is a tad too active. Damn. The delusions of not being a dwarf are probably the problem.

It's probably made from baby bone, with a handle of baby leather. Probably uses the leg bones wound together for the handle, the pelvis for the handle/pick joint, and the pick is the spine.

But that's all in theory, of course. Not like I've made a pick out of my own 5 month old baby before.

This sounds dangerously amusing.
I will join in on one of the later slots if they are still open?

This fortress is a confusing mess. But I'm on my third month and going decently well. I'd like to know how an earth there came to be so much VOMMIT everywhere. There is more vommit on the map then there is empty tiles, and nobody is cleaning it up. I can't find the dump, nor the well. My dwarves also want to clean themselves, but whenever they get to the soap bin, they cancel. What's stopping them?

You've just got to wonder how they managed to throw up that much. Anyways, the (stone) dump is in the main workshop area, in the smoothed room with the chained black bear and buzzard. The well should be in the hospital but it was all dried up last I checked. Not sure about the soap thing. Wasn't there some bug associated with it?

Who was the madman who gave all dwarves the 'STD' profession? It took me about an hour's work to sort them out into some kind of coherant workforce. Oh, the legendary workers had their labors turned off, and everyone was detailing a gigantic, useless underground complex. Argh!

EDIT: Oh, there are about ten billion forgotten beasts roaming the deeps. I experimented with opening up the caverns and exploring them all and found TEN lurking in the shadows. This fort is cursed!

That madman would be me. STD - Special Team for Detail (basically the stone detailing squad). And that useless underground complex was my attempt at proper bedrooms with aesthetics in it somewhere. Sadly it didn't get finished.

It would've helped if they were even slightly skilled at it. They wern't, and it was taking ages. Worse, they were starving to death for lack of breaks (no idea why they wern't taking any). Oh, the only miners in the fort didn't have their labor's enabled.
